Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for designing and building multimedia interfaces for the ECFMG and FAIMER websites and other e-resources using Flash, ActionScript, XML, JavaScript, XHTML/HTML, CSS, and the Adobe Creative Suite. This position also performs routine content editing. The position plays an integral role in the broader processes of web design/development and contributes to an integrated information provision strategy by producing high-quality, user-centered digital resources that meet the needs of the organizations and their diverse international clienteles, which rely heavily on the websites. The Communications department is a PC-based Adobe environment.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

EMPLOYEE INTERACTION
Works closely with Manager and other Communications staff. Interacts regularly with department heads and staff members from other departments. Periodic interaction with executives.

POLICY AND PROCEDURE INTERPRETATION
Responsible for adhering to established procedures, including review and approvals processes; licensing, copyright, and permissions; version control; and recordkeeping. Follows procedures to ensure that content is consistent across media. Maintains confidentiality of workplace information according to the policies and procedures of the institution.

INTERNAL CLIENTS / CONTACTS
ECFMG/FAIMER/CSEC department heads, staff, and executives in the course of developing e-content. All ECFMG/FAIMER staff members with inquiries or needs related to e-content, such as assistance with images and PowerPoint presentations.

EXTERNAL CLIENTS / CONTACTS
Designers, graphic artists, and other consultants. Vendors to obtain fonts, software, and images.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to perform multiple, complex tasks quickly and accurately to meet publication deadlines. Ability to sit, concentrate, and/or work on a computer for extended periods. Occasional bending (filing) and light lifting and packing of boxes or equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Secure office setting.

SKILLS/ABILITIES
Expert, independent Flash development and ActionScript programming skills. Solid XHTML/HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and XML.

Strong working knowledge of components of the Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop and Illustrator. Ability to create, manipulate, and optimize imagery.

Web design skills. Understanding of fundamentals of standards-based coding, site architecture, networking fundamentals, usability issues, and cross-browser validation. Ability to create and edit web pages with a text editor is desirable.

Accuracy, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, well-developed organizational skills, solid follow through, and attention to detail.

Ability to understand information provision goals and to recommend and develop options for presenting content that are consistent with these goals and with the organizations’ corporate images and missions.

Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability, willingness, and flexibility to contribute in a creative, peer-review, team environment. Ability to interact professionally with ECFMG/FAIMER staff, including executives; staff of outside organizations; and designers, consultants, and vendors.

General administrative skills and good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.



Qualifications/Skills Required
JOB REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE
Minimum of two years of experience in website design/development and on-line content editing. Two years of professional experience producing interactivity with Flash, ActionScript, and XML. Familiarity with a broad range of front-end technologies. Prior publications or communications experience is a plus. Experience in an educational or nonprofit environment is desirable. Samples of professional work or link to e-folio required with application.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, computer science, or other relevant field. Formal training and/or certification in Flash and/or website development and design is highly desirable.
