Job Description
Our client is searching for a Systems Engineer to report to the Group IT Infrastructure Manager and develop, maintain, support and optimise server and information systems that meets or exceeds business, data access and performance requirements. You will manage and provide Systems Administration services including designing, building, tuning, and backup and recovery for Linux, Solaris and Wintel systems. Provide IT technical expertise to applications developers, operations, and other IT staff for systems development and production support. Provide expert technical consulting to IT staff in the design, development of infrastructure systems to ensure a robust and stable environment. Participate in formulating and implementing IT standards and policies to support the operational environment and business direction. Develop all supporting technical documentation to facilitate consistency and quality of installations, systems upgrades and recovery/ repair. Develop and implement processes to assist with problem management, change management, performance monitoring to support effective operational management. Ensure the application of best practice with regard to database management in the company environment to provide a stable and robust infrastructure. Drive and guide installation support of new and existing hardware platforms and their operating environments to support ongoing business change and strategy. Advise and assist with the operation of Systems support/ Monitoring tools in order to maintain company systems. Provide, as part of a rota, on-call production support for IT Operations infrastructure and services.
You will have a Computer Science/IT related university degree with at least 1 years experience working with clustering technologies (VCS or Solaris) and an effective understanding of RDBMS systems, Security and Networking. At least 3 years experience working with UNIX (linux and Solaris) operating environments – preferably in heterogeneous environments. Demonstrated tolerance to high workloads and multiple changing priorities and experience in database administration and reporting/application analysis. ITIL Foundation Certification.
Exposure to support and development methodologies for large RDBMS (Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL) would be useful and would exposure to project management methodologies and software. Also useful are exposure to SAN (EMC, HDS) technologies and support of same and exposure to and experience with Netbackup backup/recovery systems.
Daily rate is £350 per day
