Ideas for a family holiday for a young family
Hi all
Anyone have ideas for a young family? Our kids will be aged 3 and a bit and 1 and a half when we take our main holiday some time in the second half of this year, so only toddlers.
We're based in the UK, and would prefer to avoid anything long-haul if we can... would like to find something that gives Mum and Dad a rest, but still keeps the children occupied (and tired by the end of the day ;)). Also tend to prefer the more luxurious end of the market (4 star and above) - either that extreme or camping (have wondered about driving to France), but not really looking for budget hotels/B and Bs. Last year we went to Italy and Switzerland and spent most of our time at a very nice 5 star hotel in Ticino that was very family friendly (had a creche run by qualified staff for little ones).

Children's to pre-teen reading material
I will be going on a trip with two of my 12 year old cousins soon and I would like to make sure they're reading. Does anyone have any suggestions for something appropriate? either fiction or non-fiction...whatever will get them interested and excited!

Round the world with a baby??
Hello fellow travellers.
I have a 7 month old baby and my DH and I have decided that the time is right to sell the house, pack in our dead end jobs and see a bit of the world. This was always a dream of mine until little jack arrived, and now im not so sure.
My dream started with a notion to save enough money for a round the world air ticket. I had planned to work where I could, beg if I had to and generally do some good wholesome growing up whilst limping my way from place to place. I cant see this being a good idea now I have my gorgeous son to care for.
My partner has never really been into the travelling thing but I guess I talk about it so much its just worked its way into his mind. Now he's talking about a 12 stop trip over a year or 18 months.

Getting baby foods, nappies, etc. delivered to your hotel
Hi Paul I supply these items as well as the equipment, I have links with this company that you have linked to and for the average family it can work out quite expensive depending on where theyare. To get items delivered to spain you had to order 80 gbp worth which is quite hard and most of the items you can get here cheaper just that most are in different names.
Pampers nappies for example in Spain are dodot
Not sure if any of you have a destination in mind but we are on the Costa Blanca south, We deliver all kinds of baby equipment and foods etc to your place of stay. We were actually mentioned recently on a press released for hotel executives magazines etc due to the latest be changes in luggage allowance.
We also have properties of which are let by owners for families.

Do we need to bring milk formula on holidays?
Have look for the phone number on the tin of formula and contact the manufactureres they will tell you if there is an equivelant in the country you are visiting, Or search for baby equipment companies in the area you are visiting they may be able to supply you or give you information.
Aptimel is available in spain as i have been asked a few times about this, Farleys etc is usually harder to get hold of. There is a company totsaway.com who provide items but there is a minimum order charge not sure what this is for france but is quite high for Spain alicante area.

Tips for Traveling with Kids
check what the property or hotel offers in terms of strollers and cots etc or places to hire them at the destination book beforehand to avoid dissapointment.

Hotels versus Vacation Rentals
Hotels are fine but I still feel that the private apartment wins for me as there is more freedom, You have a choice of where to eat but if you have booked a hotel all inclusive or half board i feel commited and restricted to eating there as I have paid so why would i want to go out and pay for a meal. Also with kids they do not always like the food that hotels provide so end up having chips every day or something similar which is not healthy. In a property you can have the choice to make the food taht is both healthy and everyone likes or go out when you like. The upside to hotels is most have some kind of kids clubs or entertainment in the evening but in a property you have to go out for this. Again this doe snot bother me as sitting in the same bar everyday doe not appeal to me a rental property would encourage me to go and investigate the areas and see more of the country I have paid to visit, At the end of the day if I was to pay to sit around a hotel all the time I can do this in the uk or go to centre parks.

Do you prefer to stay at home???
I think I would like to travel...unfortunately, we don't have a lot of money, and our traveling involves going as far as the car will take us on a weekend. If I win the lottery, I'm going to Europe, and I'll get there one day even if I don't win any money. :D :.

Travel options for large families
If you get a self catering villa or apartment you can usually accomodate the whole family try having a look on line to see what is available. There is a wide choice with properties all over the world, be careful of the larger companies though a sthey seem to charge a little extra. Some companies or websites will help find you a place to stay to meet your families needs give them an idea of what you are interested in let them know what your shildren like doing and if you would equire any special ectras such as welcome packs baby equipment car hire etc etc and see what they come up with.

Tips for Travelling with Children
I always get a small back pack ready with the children colouring items in books and things small toys and travel games for the older ones. The children also take their handheld games such as psp and nintendo the idea of portable dvd is a good idea but a littl larger than the psp. (also used to watch films )
Also another tip is have a look online for things for the kids in the place you are staying are there any toys available at the place of stay may be worth it so you then you have one thing less to think about packing bringing your luggage weight down.
