Travelling as a courier
I have read and become mildly excited with the idea of getting a free or greatly discounted flight. I am allways looking for cheaper way to explore the world and with a hetic work shedule sometimes only have a day or 4 to explore.
So if anyone can tell me of some services that operate FROM the UK to ........anywhere i would be a very happy camper ! x.

Girlfriends are expensive....I don't think there's much you can do to compromise. You'll just have to decide which is more important. Saving money, or saving your girlfriend :cry:.

Worldwide budget accommodation
There are heaps of good quality backpacker places in and around Cairns in fact there are now so many of them that some of the locals want them to leave town.
Cairns is a top spot for backpackers because there is so many things to do for young people you are spoilt for choice and lots of competition drives prices down.

I doubt that Sam is still in the Southern Hemisphere, as the first post described being here and there for just a few weeks. OK, so I've not scrolled back to see which country they said they'd be in for a few weeks, but the overall impression is that the trip would begin in January, and presumably finish inside the 6 months that have elapsed since then.)

Alternative to Interrail and Eurodomino?
Try Eurolines.
Interail is one of the cheapest ways for anyone under or over 26 for that matter.
There are also some websites that allow you to car share on journeys throughout Europe.

Round the World Trip Tickets

Trailfinders (online or on High Street Kensington and across the UK or Australia) and STA are specialists at compiling rtw itineraries.
Wouls it be worth pointing out that you don't have to fly between all 18 cities jooksingmui? Our RTW took 12 months, during which time we crossed 20 national borders and made 6 long haul flights (plus 5 smaller flights - mainly around Australia)?
Why spend $3500 on air tickets, when you could spend half that on air fares and spend the remainder on trvelling between flights in ways that allow you to se more of the coutries you visit?
Is there some reason why yopur trip has to be done very fast, or that you have to visit that specific list of 18 cities?

Internet bookings - good or bad when things go wrong?
I have been booking 100% of my travel through the Internet for the last 5 years. With the internet, it is so easy to do price comparisons of flights and options. I've used priceline for bidding on hotels with varied success, I found great rooms in New York City and San Francisco (for family), but on another occassion (Las Vegas) priceline turned out not to be the best option. Just goes to show that even on the Internet, you have to shop around..

Budget for around the world trip a rough one would be good
Assuming that you are sarting from Britain (and working in pounds), at least 10k for any trip that takes in North America and Australasia.
We lived on 12 a day for a year during 1999 and 2000, but it was tight. We had a tent too, so accom wherever we were wasn't expensive. We also ate cheaply everywhere, hardly drank alcohol all year, and speak French and Spanish so cut our costs by not being Brits abroad (who get charged a premium by some operators who think the tourist doesn't know better!)
Farangs in Thailand benefit from trying to learn a little Thai, or your living costs could be inflated there too.
If you have time to work along the way, then clearly your savings need not be emptied so fast, but unless you have a good 10k in reserve before you go, you may well be one more statistic who needs bailing out by the Foreign Office at some point.

New to travelling - cost&packing questions
Orang-u-tangs in Sepilok reserve near Sandikan (Sabah)
Same area Proboscis monkeys also at a different reserve. Memorial park to allied troops who dies in the Renau forced marches2000+ died only 6 survived.
Asian elephants, monkeys, hornbills and lots of other animal and birdlife on the Kinabatagan River.
Snorkelling/diving on fantastic coral reefs. Mt Kinabalu, the highest mountain between Himalaya and PNG.
Nice chill out resorts around Kota Kinabalu. Kuching the capital of Sarawak is a lovely modern city that just has a feel good quality about it. One of the cleanest (for SE Asia) and easiest cities to get along with..

Estimate travel Budget For UK
Jennifer: I don't know where in the states you're from but if you're looking for a weeklong London visit, take a look at some of the airline's web pages. British Airways, American, Virgin, and the others all have packages which include air, hotel and airport transfers and breakfast, which can save you some from booking separately. If you'd rather use a hostel and go really cheap, that would save you more.
Airfare is going to vary, it is cheaper to get to London from Washington DC and New York than it will be from Phoenix or someplace on the west coast.
Your per-day spending money will depend on what it is you choose to do. Shopping will cost more than museums. How you eat will dictate how much you spend as well..

Confirm Spending Budget
G'day folks,
Now, I'm pretty sure myself and my mate are totally fine with all of this, but my mate isn't, so I am looking for words of wisdom from the wise.
We are going on a three month trip that takes in the Southwest, Southeast and Northeast of the US, UK and Ireland as well as western Europe.
Everything has effectively been booked, with half the time spent on tours and the other half to our selves. Tickets to events are payed for, about 40% of the meals are covered and the only real expenses left are train tickets in the UK for day trips out of London, meals that aren't covered in the tours (and when we're doing our own thing) and general spending.
So, for my mate's sanity, can someone confirm that A$130 a day for the above is a very comfortable amount to be travelling on.
I'm pretty sure it is, but I've never been overseas, so I my mate refuses to believe me and is stressing out.

No staying in goverment run or privatley run campsites..
and besides since when is a bit of illegal camping if your stuck going to do any harm, I done it once for two nights in a forest in France as were stuck in the middle of no where!.

Eurail pass
I've done some additional research and it looks like Eurail passes always increase in price at the beginning of the year. So there appears a loophole that allows you to buy your pass at the previous years price and still to have 6 months to start traveling. Do you know anything about it? And also how much discount can i get on eurostar by purchasing a youth pass? The last question, it seems I cannot buy pass right on the spot, in Europe, right?.

Camping
France was the best spot for camping, it cost little or nothing to stay on the municpal goverment run campsites with free showers and some had free pools. We pay about 8 for a tent, car and two people if going camping..
