St Albans: Why should taxpayer money bail out the auto industry?
The argument for the bailout would be the fact that many jobs would be saved. However, with current operating costs, this money would simply be a bandaid on a much deeper cut that truly requires a few dozen stitches. The argument for the other side is that it's really up to the unions whose workers are completely overcompensated to make concessions to stabilize the market....I feel that the unions must do this before any taxpayer money should be handed over to them. By re-structuring union contracts and infusing money into the industry there is a much better chance of recovery. How do you think the democratic congress will see it....and how will President Obama see it knowing that t... 21 Nov 08, 01:11:21

St Albans: Are you an Aspirational or a Non-Aspirational?
The old definitions of rich and poor, working class or middle class, Left and Right, ABC1C2DE are outdated.
Society is split truly down the middle. Those that love the Thatcher/ New Labour way, and those who don't.
Now it is stagnation countered by dynamism. Or it is ruthless grasping thievery countered by prudence and service.
Here are my definitions:
The priority of the Aspirationals is to get on in life, to make money, to spend on designer brands, clubbing, big cars, expensive houses, and leading a lifestyle that will bring envy in others. “I am considerably richer than you” and “Loadsamoney” are typical Harry Enfield parody aspirationals. They have contempt for t... 21 Nov 08, 12:11:11

St Albans: Anybody else notice the markets reaction to yesterday's mess on the hill?
Charles Gibson reported that prior to the Dem stalling of the Big-3 assistance bill, the market was up over 100 pts. However, when it became clear that nothing would happen the market tanked, closing over 400 pts down.
I ask again. Does it really matter how the Big-3 CEOs got to Washington? We are talking about middle class American jobs.
I'll agree w/ the Obama bit.
It was up ~160 at 12:50.... 21 Nov 08, 07:11:19
St Albans: How come the economy went bad while Bush's tax cuts were active?
Why would the worst economic decade of our lifetimes, since the Great Depression, be the one where we had the lowest tax rates?
Look at the abysmal job creation under Bush (a net loss). Look at the market performance under Bush (a 30% net LOSS....so far). All while the national debt soared - doubling to 10 TRILLION DOLLARS.
Doesn't this prove that tax cuts for the rich do nothing to stimulate the economy?... 21 Nov 08, 06:11:47
