St Albans: Would this be classed as unfair dismissal?
I started a new job in June and when I started I already had two holidays booked which they legally had to give to me. But they really kicked up a big fuss about it all and didnt want me to take that holiday.
So I went on both of them and then when I came back from the 2nd one I caught a chest infection and had to take another 5 days off work inwhich I got signed off by my doctor.
I also had to take 2 days off last month as I had some girlie problems.
About a month ago my manager spoke to me about how I was having too much time off and that he was a little concerned etc... bla bla bla.
Then a few weeks ago I was really late for work due to my trains being all messed up and he sen... 21 Nov 08, 12:11:01
St Albans: Can a business ask for a credit report BEFORE giving out the job application, or does this sound like a scam?
I replied to a posting on Craigslist, trying to see if a receptionist position was indeed a real job and not just one of those schemes or spam. The response I got said:
Due to bad experiences with this in the past, before we can send you an application, we need you to get a credit check. We prefer you use (*specific website*) to obtain this information. When you submit your information they will send you your credit check. When you email me your credit score I will send you your application.
Is this something a legitimate employer can ask for prior to receiving any of my information (not even a resume), or do you think this is some way to fish for my information just to g... 21 Nov 08, 08:11:19
St Albans: A friend is asking me for advice: Had to break a promise to her little boy. What would you do/say?
A good friend of mine who I have known since High School and I keep in touch over the phone and email (we live in different states).
She called me the other day, near tears, asking for advice.
Her situation is that her no good husband ran away with his mistress and left her with lots of unpaid business and property taxes, as well as a horribly handled mortgage on a property in need of some serious repair.
She is not receiving any child support or any other means of support (or even an assumption of his half of the debt) from her husband, because no one can find him.
She's not even legally divorced yet, though that paperwork is working it's way through the courts, and... 21 Nov 08, 06:11:36

St Albans: I need help deciding my major!?
I'm going to college this January. I have no clue what I want to major in. I know that I do not have to decide my major until the end of my sophomore year but I would like to at least narrow my decision down. I'm going to give you a little background info on me. I'm pretty handy with computers. I can unassemble and reassemble them pretty easily. I like technology, specifically new technology. Say for example, I purchased a laptop that was supposed to have all the new features, then a month later another company comes out with a newer version. I would sell my month-old laptop and purchase the new one; I like all types of new technology. However, this may be a lot of people as w... 21 Nov 08, 04:11:29
St Albans: Applying for a job, and it asks to list my compensation/salary requirements. Where do I put this information?
I am responding to a job listing for a local company that was posted on the internet, and it asks to list my compensation/salary requirements. It says it offers competitive compensation based on background, experience and education. I am asked to forward my resume to the company's email address, then to list my requested compensation. Where do I put this information? Cover Letter? Resume? And how do i put this information on the document? Or am I to send a separate document listing compensation requirements?... 21 Nov 08, 04:11:32
St Albans: How long should I wait after an interview whether or not I got the job?
I had an interview two weeks ago. It went well and I had a good feeling about it. The company is small (about 60 employees). At the end of the interview they said they would contact me, but they did not give a timeline. Two days ago (12 days after the interview) I send them a followup email, thanking them for their time and reaffirming them of my interest in the job. They did not reply to that email yet. How much longer should I wait before I give them a call? I don't have a problem, if they think I am not the right candidate for this job. Nevertheless, I think I deserve an email or a call telling me whether I got the job or not.
Ok, but shouldn't they at least tell me that I didn&... 21 Nov 08, 03:11:29
St Albans: Will you tell me all your favorite stores?
me and my friend Karlee are going to go to go shopping tomorrow which is going to be Friday and I would like to have some shops to go to. I dont care how expensive their clothes are I just need stores. Share this question and tell your friends to answer it because i need stores. My friend gave me a job to find the stores we are going to and she was going to make the cover of our trip book. We are going to take pictures and put them in the book w/ trying to tell the story. She said that her dad would take us anywhere we wanted to. We are kind of rich so we dont care where we go. give me at least more than 33 and you MIGHT be the winner. If you can, try to tell us the average amount that we wi... 20 Nov 08, 11:11:45
St Albans: Interview last week Wednesday...should I call the company?
I had a second interview for an entry-level position last week Wednesday, but I still have not heard anything from the company. I sent thank-you letters as required, via post, and hoped to hear from the company by the end of last week.
My friend works in the department for which I interviewed, and she informed me that they have not made an offer yet (as of this week Tuesday). I am concerned that I am not one of their top candidates, as they have not offered me the position to date, but is it common for offers to take a while for entry-level job-seekers? They told me they were planning to make a decision early this week...
Also, I just sent an email to the hiring director. I probab... 20 Nov 08, 11:11:53
