Sheffield: Sites For Holiday Rentals!!?
I live in the Netherlands with my English husband and 2 kids. To be close to family next summer (2009) we're looking for a holiday rental. Max of £300 pw for the duration of 2 weeks. We'd like to be around Sheffield, max of 20 miles or so. Anybody know any good, reliable sites to check?? Thanks!

Sheffield: For those of you who play baseball, do you imitate anyone's batting stance?
I always kinda swung like Gary Sheffield. Man-Mickey had a crazy stance. I used to try to copy him. Too hard to put my bat on the ball. I always stop that swingy thing that Gary does alot sooner than he actually does, but you wouldn't believe the looks I get and the things pitchers say. I can actually hit pretty good though.

Sheffield: The phrase mardy can anyone help us out with the origins?
Here is an odd one, I have to admit. I was born in Leicester, England, and the term Mardy means to be moody, difficult and sulky. Anyone from Leicester, and it also appears in Nottingham, also knows what this word means. Like many words, its a regional thing. However, my boyfriend and many of his friends are from Sheffield, utterly miles away if you consider that other regions in England a lot closer have no idea of the term, know exactly what the term mardy is and use it often. My question, in anyone can help, is how can a region word like that exist in common use, in isolation from the rest of the country, but at the same time be used miles apart from each other? I even checked it out on wikapedia and its true! See! Mardy is a word in some dialects of English meaning: awkward; un-co-operative; bad tempered; whiney; aloof; stroppy, sulking like a small child. Its usage tends to be more common around, but not exclusive to Leicester ( the East Midlands) and Sheffield . It is often used in phrases such as mardy bum, mardy cow, mardy bugger etc.. Anyone that knows the term, please chip in, Id like to know where you are from (especially proof that it is used up north!) but any ideas how it could skip every bugger else and be a Leicester and Sheffield thing, very welcome!!

Sheffield: Long distance relationship?
I met up with a guy recently (2nd time) and he was totally perfect for me! I really like him and he likes me back. But said nothing can really happen because he lives 4 hours away in Sheffield and costs lots to come down each time. I really want to be with him so does anyone have any ideas on how to get over the long distance? Thank you :)
