Scarborough: Unemployment? I was laid off...?
Unemployment? I was laid off, but...?
I wasn't an employee
At the end of February 08 a real estate law firm hired me as their office clerk/ secretary... they told me that they'd pay me $12.50 an hour, and possibly in 3 months they'd make me a salaried employee w benefits. Well that never happened. Fast forward to the beginning of November they said that they were going to have to let me go. It's a time were finding another job is a bit difficult and I have bills. Because I was in a contract position (no taxes w/held- no agency involved), does that mean that I can't file for unemployment? Scarborough: am i elligible for unemployment?
Ok. Here is my scenario. I'm in Florida. On July 20, 2007 the company i worked for closed. I filed unemployment. I started to collect and right before I exhausted it (jan 08), I accepted a temporary position through a temp agency. This position ran out in May 16, 2008. I was lucky and was able to pick up another job immediately in May 19, 2008. Unfortunately, that company closed on Nov 20, 2008. No I am worried that I am not elligible for unemployment, because I dont meet the base period criteria? Does anyone know anything about this. Yes, I have been pro actively looking for work, and have not denied any offers, and have lost all jobs at no fault of my own. Its just how it is right now... 22 Nov 08, 03:11:53

Scarborough: How do I get my first Job on an oil rig?
I'm trying to get an entry level position on an oil rig. I'm currently located in Houston, TX I don't have any previous working experience, but I've completed a Pre-employment floorhand training program at a school accredited by the IADC.
My first choice would be on a Land rig, because the instructor said typically guys on land rigs move up the ranks faster than offshore because there is a higher employee turnaround rate.
Also I would like to stay in the us, and in TX
Both of the preferences listed above are just that... preferences, I'm still open too other oppurtunities as well, because my first priority is getting the first job so I can have some experi... 22 Nov 08, 11:11:17

Scarborough: What options are available for a young couple looking to adopt?
Hi everyone.
I'm a young woman who is looking into adoption. My partner and I are both women, and we live in Victoria, BC, Canada. I am19 and she is 23. We are married and my wife holds a full-time job. I don't work yet because I am waiting for permanent residency paperwork, but once that is done I plan to work part-time while I finish my nursing degree.
My wife and I are financially and emotionally stable and we would like to look into adoption as we feel we are nearly ready to provide for a child. Are there any resources out there, any good agencies, or anyplace we can get more information? I understand that we will have to wait a little while longer before we actually go i... 22 Nov 08, 01:11:43
Scarborough: How do I handle collection agency bullies?
I have bee receiving numerous phone calls from a debit collector looking for someone with the same first name as me but a different last name. They constantly call my job. They ask the receptionist for my fist name, so she transfers the calls to me. Once they get my extension they ask for the first and last name of this person. SEVERAL times I've told them I cannot receive calls at work and that I am not Mrs. Gray. I've spoken to the manager, she then asked me for my social security number, which I refused to give to her. She then threatened to call my human resources department ....
I''ve emailed they're corporate office. I've sent letters. Yet th... 21 Nov 08, 11:11:58
