Norwich: How do I get my mom o understand that my brother won’t learn his lesson if she keeps trying to fix everything?
My mother has always been a very protective person when it comes to keeping bad things from happening to my brother and I. She always wants to fix everything for us to make sure that we don’t get hurt. The only problem with this is that because of this my brother never learns. He always knows our mom is going to come to his rescue no matter what.
My brother recently was placed on academic probations, I asked my mom to please let him work it out himself because he was the one who messed up and he needs to learn to fix it. Instead she rushed down and tried to get everything straightened up, not that it worked, so that brother did not have to try and do it himself.
Because of his acad... 22 Nov 08, 06:11:36
Norwich: is it too late? some career advice?
hi.
i am doing my undergrad degree in bioengineering right now. i have chosen this major cos i love biology and i used to be good at maths and physics. and i chose this one over biomed sciences cos i think it's more challenging and the career prospects are better.
now i found out that it was a huge mistake. after all, i am not enjoying the extra maths and physics from my engineering degree course and the little or nonexistent biology component of it.
i recently read an article about 'women in science' written by an academic from MIT and i knew where i went all wrong.
i have a very friendly, bubbly and helpful character which makes me better suited for jobs that are more pe... 22 Nov 08, 04:11:44

Norwich: I need help deciding my major!?
I'm going to college this January. I have no clue what I want to major in. I know that I do not have to decide my major until the end of my sophomore year but I would like to at least narrow my decision down. I'm going to give you a little background info on me. I'm pretty handy with computers. I can unassemble and reassemble them pretty easily. I like technology, specifically new technology. Say for example, I purchased a laptop that was supposed to have all the new features, then a month later another company comes out with a newer version. I would sell my month-old laptop and purchase the new one; I like all types of new technology. However, this may be a lot of people as w... 21 Nov 08, 04:11:29
Norwich: Editing a book that my husband's writing... will a publisher allow me to do this?
My husband is currently writing a book and is asking me to edit it. I have a B.A. in English with an emphasis in professional writing.
Editing is my strong suit, so whenever he completes it, I'd like to have that editing work on my resume since I have only a few months of real-world editing experience aside from my academic experience.
For those of you familiar with the ins and outs of writing and getting published, is this a feasible option? I'm hoping that editing an entire novel will serve as a good stepping stone for when I decide to take on a steady editing job later on.
Any advice on this is appreciated!... 21 Nov 08, 04:11:05

Norwich: Dissatisfied with job: how can I choose a more satisfying career?
I am one of those people who never decided what they wanted to do for a living. I got a BA in English, later went to graduate school to study Art History (big mistake), then floated though some retail jobs before landing in an admin support job. I've read half a dozen career books and even seen a career counselor, but this hasn't helped. I'm not cut out to be an academic (as I learned in grad school). I am also extremely shy and do not enjoy/excel at interacting with people. I have thought about editing, but all the ads are looking for people who have several years of experience which I (in my late 30s!) do not have. I feel my coursework in English and Art History was a big wa... 20 Nov 08, 01:11:46
