Norwich: Do they owe me a paycheck for what I worked?
In late October, I started a new job that had way better pay than my previous job, offered training and development and guaranteed me a working environment that encourages respect and fair treatment . After 3 days of working there, I realized that only thing I was going to get of those things was the paycheck. After 2 1/2 weeks of working in a negative atmosphere with no guidance, mentorship or professionalism, I grabbed my jacket and actually walked out of the job. Something I have never done in my 14 years in the workforce. It was that bad.
My question is that, since I quit four days into the new pay period, does the company owe me for those days that I worked? I was on ... 22 Nov 08, 05:11:49
Norwich: Anyone who has seen Twilight?
did you like it? i was dissapointed.
BTW: do not answer this question if you haven't read the books.
so, let me just say that if i was not an avid fan of the books and had not read each of them at least 4 times, i would have LOVED the movie.
however, i am an avid fan and i have read each book at least 4 times.
i was dissapointed by the movie, which i expected. something as great as the books can never be translated onto film and be as spectacular (exception: lord of the rings).
i was sad that:
1 - they did not spend any time developing emmett as the big brother to bella, let alone developing any of the other cullens (i.e. how big of a struggle it is for ... 22 Nov 08, 08:11:46

Norwich: Are we seeing the end of Free Trade and Globalization?
Globalization IS NOT NEW it occurred many times in the history of the world and it always ended. The longest it lasted was the 70-80 years before the Napoleonic Wars. Globalization occurred after World War I and before the depression. It has always ended and it will end again soon.
When a politician like McCain gets up in Detroit and says their jobs are not coming back and they would be able to find new jobs that Free Trade is going to provide they seem ridiculously out of touch. Reagen did this in Pittsburgh when the Steel Industry collapsed and most people agreed with him back then.
Development of the third world was only possible through the easy movement of capital and ... 21 Nov 08, 06:11:17
Norwich: Is this economic collapse the beginning of the end of what we call Free Trade & Globalization ?

Norwich: What's better? Weapons Engineer for huge civilian company, or Development Engineer for Air Force?
I need to work on equipment for the military. I want to join the military and at least serve my time, and I already have the degree to do it, but I need to finish losing some weight and get in shape, no problem. However, what's better to join the Air Force and go for Developmental Engineer position (OTS) or just apply for a electronic engineering job in a local military company (BAE Systems)?
Thanks for any feedback and opinions.... 20 Nov 08, 11:11:21
Norwich: When our economy ultimately goes bust, will you be happy just to work in one of Obama's forced labor gulags?
Taken from an Obama speech:
Today, AmeriCorps - our nation's network of local, state and national service programs - has 75,000 slots. I know firsthand the quality of these programs. My wife Michelle once left her job at a law firm to be the founding director of an AmeriCorps program in Chicago that trains young people for careers in public service. These programs invest Americans in their communities and their country. They tap America's greatest resource - our citizens.
As President, I will expand AmeriCorps to 250,000 slots, and make that increased service a vehicle to meet national goals like providing health care and education, saving our planet and restoring our standing... 20 Nov 08, 10:11:04
Norwich: How can Congress possibly bail out the Big 3 Automakers when...?
How can the US Congress possibly vote billions of taxpayer dollars to bail out the Big 3 Automakers when the buyers of the products made by the Big 3 Automakers have lost their jobs and have no money to purchase any new cars?
Somehow this idea places the cart before the horse in more ways than one, doesn't it?
Why pay taxpayer dollars to Ford, GM, and Chrysler to keep them in business doing the same old thing when that process is what got them into trouble in the first place. The government has already voted to spend money to assist them in development of new technologies for the future...what more is necessary from the taxpayers? Anything that can go onto a list should be paid fo... 20 Nov 08, 08:11:23

Norwich: Advice on staying home or working?
I have been fortunate enough to have a boss who has allowed me to bring my newborn to work with me. I work in an attorney's office for 2 attorneys. My now 5 mo. old has been coming to work with me since he was 2 mos. old. It's been kind of up and down. He is a really good baby, but I think sometimes he gets bored. I try as best I can to devote a lot of attention to him, but it's difficult when I have to answer the phone or type a letter, etc... The job is also stressful, because it's mostly criminal defense law. And he can definitely sense when I am stressed, he reaches a point to where he is so upset that the only way to calm him is to leave the office. So we usua... 20 Nov 08, 03:11:30
