Lyme Regis: How would the Big 3 failure affect the U.S. economy?
This letter from ex-Ford spokesman Jason Vines, found at http://www.autoextremist.com, was too good not to share.
This is a partial excerpt due to AY.com restraints.
We may never know the financial burden of Hurricane Katrina on New Orleans directly and to other Americans indirectly. Some have pegged it at between 200 and 300 billion dollars. While we cannot stop hurricanes, almost everyone now agrees that more and better things should have been done prior to the storm and certainly in the days and weeks after the disaster.
What would those things have cost? Let's take a wild guess and say 100 billion dollars or half of what eventually was spent in a tot... 22 Nov 08, 05:11:18
Lyme Regis: Volunteering or donating this season?
I still have a job, as does my family members. This year more than previous there are alot of people less fortunate in your own town that are just not making it. Is there something small you do frequently, a charity you regularly volunteer for or donate to? Is there something that you would love to do but just have not because you don't know how to go about doing it or haven't made the time? Do you have definite plans to help someone less fortunate in the near future? Do you secretly help someone out who really needs it?... 22 Nov 08, 05:11:22

Lyme Regis: How much charity is too much to be expected?
I need some outside opinions on this.
A few days ago, I got up to a note on my door. It was from a man who said he and his wife had both been laid off and so they were going around trying to earn money by painting house numbers on the sidewalk. Well, my husband and I aren't exactly well-off ourselves, but we could afford to help out a little, so when this guy came around again, I gave him fifteen dollars (all I had on me at the time, which was triple what he'd asked for anyway), and gave him the standard If there's anything else we can do line. He thanked me and left.
Yesterday morning at around eight, while we're still shuffling around in our jammies... 20 Nov 08, 03:11:40
Lyme Regis: How do you get involved in Christmas Cheer or Christmas Charities in North Carolina?
My husband and I are both unemployed, he was laid off in October, and with our local economy (as with everywhere else) jobs are very scarce. We are already getting assistance from WIC, Medicaid and Food stamps, but due to no money, and what little we do get our hands on from selling things we run across we don't need, and from my dad who has been helping as much as he possibly can...we won't be able to provide for my little girl for Christmas.
I have heard of a few Christmas Charities around the country, but Im wondering what all is offered around my area (Graham, NC) and how to get involved with them to possibly get assistance to provide my little girl with a Christmas.... 20 Nov 08, 01:11:10
