i was into a weeks training to be a health care assistant (on the bank) (which is staff who cover for maternity or sickness as and when needed) when i found out i was pregnant. told my main employer and she was fine with it. Went to the maternity ward and had an interview to be on the bank there too. this opportunity doesnt com up often as lots of people want to do this. The lady who set me up with the interview knows im pregnant but i dont think she informed the maternity staff. I work for a municipality and most people think our jobs are safe.
Our city managers have been trimming our budget/city services for two years, and now are in the process of eliminating staff .
We are losing our revenue with stores closing by the scores; less food and beverage tax and other sales tax income for the city; residents not able to pay their tax/utility bills. Many of the other municipalities in our area have laid off 5 to 40 workers.

Well, it is ashamed to ask this question but it is true that I've been living in this condition for couple years now and it made me so depress because of my personal financial problem. I recently received a job offer to act as a financial representative for a company.
It was made vaguely clear that it was a customer service-type role, but basically said that I'd be accepting invoice payment on the company's behalf, and receive a salary as well as a commission for each payment.
Is this a safe job to get into? Are there any catches I need to know about before I make a decision?
I don't really want anyone hacking into my bank account or landing me into hot water with the law or anything.

Keswick: If the economy is bad and banks won't give anyone loans, how are entrepreneurs supposed to work?
How are we supposed to be entrepreneurs if the economy is so low and banks won't give out loans...what are we supposed to do?? Just pick up normal average joe jobs and wait it out?? How are we supposed to live our dreams???
