Jersey: How do I get my first Job on an oil rig?
I'm trying to get an entry level position on an oil rig. I'm currently located in Houston, TX I don't have any previous working experience, but I've completed a Pre-employment floorhand training program at a school accredited by the IADC.
My first choice would be on a Land rig, because the instructor said typically guys on land rigs move up the ranks faster than offshore because there is a higher employee turnaround rate.
Also I would like to stay in the us, and in TX
Both of the preferences listed above are just that... preferences, I'm still open too other oppurtunities as well, because my first priority is getting the first job so I can have some experi... 22 Nov 08, 11:11:17
Jersey: When to date my resignation letter?
My position is being eliminated by the company next month. The company knows I have been searching.I received a job offer today, to start on the monday after Thanksgiving (Dec 1). So, if I give my employer notice on Nov. 24, that gives them 1 week notice. But, the company gives us Thanksgiving and the day after off (Nov. 27 & 28). So the question is? Do I date my resignation for Weds. (Nov. 26) thereby giving them a 3 day notice or date it for Fri. (Nov. 28), which gives them a week notice? I am concerned the company will not want to pay me for the holidays, if I am not returning after they are over. Does anyone know the law in CA about this?... 22 Nov 08, 06:11:26
Jersey: Are you glad now Sarah Palin lost?
Sarah Palin Pardons a Turkey
By Philip Rucker
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin visited a turkey farm in her home town of Wasilla yesterday to grant the traditional Thanksgiving pardon to one turkey. But as the former Republican vice presidential hopeful took questions from reporters, a farm worker was seen slaughtering other turkeys and feeding the birds into a grinder.
Video by KTUU-TV of the governor and the bloody work over her shoulder became an overnight YouTube hit. Holding a cup of coffee, Palin said of the outing at Triple D Farms, Oh, this was neat.
I was happy to get to be invited to participate in this, Palin continued. For one, you need a little bit o... 22 Nov 08, 05:11:01

Jersey: For those out of work, would you be willing to hire a Job Search Consultant?
Would you be willing to hire a Job Search Consultant on a contingency basis to find work for you? Meaning you owe them nothing unless they find work for you, and you accept?
For hypothesis sake, let's say it was a flat percentage based on salary, payable over 2 installments. This isn't fishing for business, I'm looking for arguments on both sides. Why or why not? Pros, cons? What percentage, if any, do you think would be fair?... 22 Nov 08, 01:11:48
Jersey: Can someone please help?
I have been searching for a job for over five months now (my current contract is ending on Wednesday next week) and my fiance just went through a month without a job. We just bought a house six months ago and I give him $1000 a month for it. Since he just started his job, he can't afford to pay our property taxes, the mortgage, and my bills on top of that. I do not know how long I will be out of work, but I am not getting any leads. I had a very promising interview yesterday and the guy even said I'd be coming back, but changed his mind on my way to sign papers.
I feel like I should just move out to save my fiance the pain of having my lazy a$$ around not paying for stuff. I fee... 21 Nov 08, 11:11:24
Jersey: Please read and tell me what you think? Also, ideas on how to make it better?
I realize it's kinda long. Thanks in advance for reading and replying.
Shadows crept silently in the soft light cast by the partial moon that hung low in a star strewn sky. A cool breeze whispered through the trees, causing the traveler walking the rough trail through the forest to be wary. The forest was unnaturally quiet without any sounds from the usual night creatures, casting a sense of foreboding around the area. It seemed all of the animals had fled for fear of something happening.
The trail was barely visible, even when it was daytime, so the traveler was at a great disadvantage. The cloaked figure kept to the shifting shadows, a hood casting his face in darkness. Clouds ... 21 Nov 08, 10:11:59
