Inverness: How can I get a teaching job?
I graduated from college in 1983 with a degree in education. I am certified in elementary education but have never taught full time. I have only substitute taught. I have applied for several teaching assistant postions. I don't even get called for an interview. How can I update my experience to get a teaching position?... 21 Nov 08, 12:11:31

Inverness: Torn between two potential jobs, I think?!?
I have a job in a great company. I've been here for 6 months. Unfortunately, my job is through a union and someone else was laid off which gives them the right to bump me out. This new person may have the option of taking a position in another dept however, they haven't completed all that's needed to open that position...My boss was hopeful b/c my dept did not want to lose me...Luckily for me there is an opening in a diff dept with the same pay I make now and different hrs. They need an answer from me tomorrow or they will interview others. My question is: Should I hold out for my bosses to maybe, possibly get this other opening completed so the new per... 21 Nov 08, 12:11:21
Inverness: I was about to get hired at a new job but.....?
Recruiting Manager was calling me and hinting I was going to get hired they just needed the background check. I told them up front I had a DUI and they said it shouldn't be an issue.
My buddy who got me the interview works for this company. He has a DUI and got hired this past April. We have identical resume's, same past experience and same degree from the same College.
I don't know anything about the legality of hiring anyone, but with everyone telling me its ok to have a DUI, then all of a sudden they won't hire me, is there some kind of discrimination?
Is there anything I can do?

Inverness: Is it okay to apply to more than one position for the same company?
I applied for a job position at a company a month and a half ago and I haven't heard anything back yet. I really want to work at this company. Since i haven't heard back for them for the position i originally applied for, i want to apply to a few other positions at this same company. Is this a good idea? Will it hurt my chances of getting an interview for this company?... 20 Nov 08, 11:11:23
Inverness: What is a good way to ask a manager for a job as a barback?
Should I say, Hi, I'm new in town, staying with my gf and need a place to work ? That sounds like a bad way to start things off, but I'm not a very social person (due to the fact that I don't know how to start conversations), so can you suggest something better?
That's actually why I want to be a barback. I don't want to go to a job that requires a serious interview. I was even thinking about maybe washing cars... this is temporary, of course, while I go to school to become a fire fighter. I know my experience in the navy will help me get through that interview... 20 Nov 08, 11:11:00

Inverness: What should I do? I'm up all night crying and uptight and can't sleep because I'm upset?
I'm a 27 year old male from the Los Angels,CA area. The reason why I can't find work or keep a job is because a majority of the population thinks that I m Mentally Retarded and am incapable. This is why I get descriminated against.
How should I fight this? Sadly 95% of employers think that based on my appearance and tics that I'm Mentally Retarded and am incapable of doing a job.
When you tell an employer up front or before hand they automatically descriminate against you.
This is the reason on why I have no girlfriend or many other friends. I have trouble meeting people. People just don't want to give me a chance.

Inverness: Recently divorced. Lost everything. Unemployed 2 years and unable to secure a job...almost homeless!!?
Recently divorced, unemployed for 2 years. Lost everything in divorce this week. Completely broke, actually overdrawn with NO income at all. The state of Georgia unlike other states, is very strict on hiring someone with a felony background. My felony is 30 years old!! I can't believe that something so long ago can be a ghost to haunt you for the rest of your life. I made a mistake, paid my dues, and now I am not allowed to be able to support myself because of it?? This is ludicrous to say the least!! Are there any programs available in GA (or government programs) to help me stay afloat until I can secure employment? I am sure I will find something eventually....but 2 years is a long, ... 20 Nov 08, 11:11:14
Inverness: Interview last week Wednesday...should I call the company?
I had a second interview for an entry-level position last week Wednesday, but I still have not heard anything from the company. I sent thank-you letters as required, via post, and hoped to hear from the company by the end of last week.
My friend works in the department for which I interviewed, and she informed me that they have not made an offer yet (as of this week Tuesday). I am concerned that I am not one of their top candidates, as they have not offered me the position to date, but is it common for offers to take a while for entry-level job-seekers? They told me they were planning to make a decision early this week...
Also, I just sent an email to the hiring director. I probab... 20 Nov 08, 11:11:53
