Halifax: HELP! Don't know what to do w/ my life (long but help is appreciated as much as hookers appreciate penicillin)?
I'm 21 and having a hard time figuring out what career I want to pursue. It's about time I finally select my major. I need a job that's different everyday since I get bored easily and want to learn about/do everything. The things I've seriously considered are nursing, graphic design, engineering, plastic surgeon, crime scene investigator, physical therapist, construction management, hospitality, zoologist, marine biologist....so as you can see I'm all over the place. What's really appealing to me right now is investigative reporting since there's so much potential for variety--but it looks like they don't make much money.
My strong points are writin... 04 Dec 08, 09:12:52
Halifax: Help! I feel like I can't enjoy myself, I feel like a worthless piece of s#*t...?
I apologize in advance for this post being so long...
I'm so stressed; I cannot enjoy myself. I'm a recent grad with a degree in graphic design. I have a job, but it isn't all that stable. It's a seasonal job at a theme park as an airbrush artist. Its closed in the winter, so to put it, I'm between jobs. I'm going back to school part time to muster my skills in web design at my local community college. I'm currently employed at the campus on a really part time basis as a figure model; sure its pays a good wage, but not enough hours. I've put out resumes and gone to several interviews with no luck over the last three months, and yes, I've... 04 Dec 08, 08:12:18
Halifax: What should I do with my Graphic Design Talent?
I am a self-taught graphic designer. I can honestly say I am extremely talented, but I have yet to find a way to put it to good use. I want freedom to be 100% creative all day long. Right now I work two jobs, and I tried to get a small graphic design business off the ground, but it doesn't seem to be working out. I need help finding my creative outlet that will also allow me to make a little money at least.
Thanks in advance for your help! Any links you might have would be great, too. I already know about 99designs.com, and I haven't had much luck there. I think of myself as a trend-setter while the people who design on that website are often followers.
Thanks again for yo... 04 Dec 08, 05:12:10
Halifax: State job with out of country degree?
I want to apply for a New York State job (it would just be a traffic agent job - nothing with a particular high level of skill). I am a legal resident in the US - but have my BA degree from Dominican Republic in Graphic Design. They are asking for a GED - and I only have 3 weeks to apply - which means that getting the GED wouldn't work because I wouldn't get the score in time.
Can I apply with my out-of-the-country degree?
Any advice would be great. Thanks!... 04 Dec 08, 02:12:38

Halifax: Trade Schools- help!?
I'm going to be honest, I'm a horrible student. I've always been that way, and I can't really do a whole lot to change it. I'm trying to have a career- almost any career at this point- in design, either graphic or interior.
I had to drop out of Kent State University after one semester because I was doing so badly, and came back home and have been attending community college ever since. quite frankely, i'm extremely tired of going to school at all...I can't stand it and want it to be over with, and I'm still doing bad even with just two basic classes and no job. I've been reeming about this whole school thing because of all the extra work you ha... 03 Dec 08, 11:12:50
Halifax: Graphic Designer majors...How did you do it?
How do you do it? I REALLY want to go to school to get a degree on Graphic Design. About 3 years ago, I only lasted at the L.A. Art Institute for 3 months. I only had 3 classes and I was very stressed out. Not only because of the work, but stressed at my full time school district job, financial stress; I was driving an El Camino at the time in which I was paying about $200-$350 for gas a month plus the monthly tuition which was $380, plus my rent, bills....I'm on my own, I have parents but they can't help me financially. I became so overwhelmed that I just felt like I had to drop out. I loved the classes, the teachers, even doing the work. I just couldn't hang. Right n... 03 Dec 08, 08:12:22
