Halifax: need advice on other potential career paths for an accounting & finance degree holder?
Hey all! I am about to complete an accounting and finance degree, but I still do not like the idea of going into accounting. Yet, I can't seem to think of any other specific jobs or career paths with good future opportunities that I could take that doesn't require specialised knowledge. Eg to work in a museum or geology centre, you need qualifications. I have realised that an important factor to me is the workplace surroundings. (Eg access to nature or something aesthetically beautiful, hence the above examples) It would be nice if this was taken into consideration. Any suggestions would be helpful. Many thanks!...

Halifax: Army Reserves was a waste of time...?
I was having trouble gettin a job in Accounts, i had no experience, so i joined the Army Reserves as a Payroll Clerk. Although now i find that, since i quit the Army, coz they're just so painfully slow and it would of taken me 2yrs to be a simple Data Entry operator, who didn't even do tax, super, sick leave or anything.... it's got no relevance to a civilian payroll job....... plus...... civilian employers have no understanding of the Army Reserves at all and just simply im not gettin any jobs from it....... Any tips?? I'm now doing an Accounting degree.... I have no references and im dead broke.... I'm definately not a wanna be soldier.... too intelligent ...

Halifax: Are H&R Block classes worth taking?
I am a college senior and am graduating in May with a degree in accounting. I submitted an application for seasonal H&R Block tax preparer and got called for the job today. I am wondering if it is worth doing? Does it look good on a resume when I am applying for accounting jobs after I graduate or I am just wasting my time?...

Halifax: This modeling website: www.myphatbreak.com. Is it just a money scheme?
www.myphatbreak.com I joined this website a few days ago and it is $99 to join up for a year, however it gave me a 'free code' for a year's free membership, which surprisingly did not work. I then went to the 'job posts' section and there wasn't one single job post, and because I haven't paid to upgrade my membership I can't really do much, except upload a few extra pictures and that's all. Everything requires me to 'upgrade my account for just $99' A huge get rich easily scheme or what?...

Halifax: Can the bank seize any other assets besides the house if I get foreclosed upon?
I have great credit and no other debts. If i buy a house, lose my job and can't afford mortgage payments can the bank go after my other assets (stocks, bank accounts, etc.) or will they just take the house back? I'm concerned about keeping my other investments safe if I buy a house. I live in Connecticut...

Halifax: In need of serious career help?
Ok to start off I'm going to list my current situation with as much detail as possible. I'm a 27 year old, single, male, living alone at my apartment. Bills are high and I have a hard time making ends meet. Right now I'm working at Wal-Mart (please no unnecessary bad comments about that company) third shift, and I'd like to go on days, because I've been on 3 shift for 6 years and it sucks. I'm also going to a community college to get a 1 year degree in drafting. My problem is that I'm not really into drafting and I'm wondering if it's worth it to get the degree in it if I'm not that excited about it in the first place. I just cannot sum...

Halifax: Does this incident at Walmart constitute a potential lawsuit?
I have been employed with Walmart since May of this year. I have two incidents which I think could be potential lawsuits.. 1.) I admit, sometimes I am 10 or 15 minutes late. But I get the job done. And I've even stayed TWO HOURS over to zone my entire area. Everyone else in my department walks around the store all day and I am left begging someone to take the register for me to have my break or take lunch or go to the bathroom. My assistant manager over my department is a caucasian man in his 30s and he has threatened to fire me if I'm ever late again. (I've never had a write-up, btw.) He doesn't take into account my pregnancy (5 mths) or my husband's condition (u...

Halifax: I already work three jobs but can't afford to move out of my parents' house, help!?
I have a full time job from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, until next week (I graduate this month) I go to school from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, then go to work as an overnight nanny on school days from 11:00pm to 7:15am. On the weekends I work at a horse barn from 9:00am to 11:30am. I don't think I can fit anymore into my schedule but I still can't afford to move out. I make about $2000 a month and the rent is $650, not including insurance and utilities. Usually, I can limit my spending (food, gas, etc) to about $800 a month and then my car insurance is $80, and my cell phone is $80. I'd like to keep putting money into my savings account as well, just in case some emergency happens. Do you ...
