Guildford: What do I have to do to qualify to be an Economist with the Bureau of Labor Statistics?
I'm hoping someone will have some experience they can share with me.
I will graduate with a degree in Economics in a year from now. I've been looking at job listings for Economists and it seems like the BLS is the biggest hirer or Economists. I've been checking out the requirements listed on the usajobs.gov website, but I read somewhere that a major qualifier for the jobs was passing an economics test and I read that they had a practice test out there. I can't find any other reference to this test or the practice test. Does anyone know if this really exists and if so, what kind of stuff is on the test. ex. would it deal more with labor markets, or would I have to ... 05 Dec 08, 03:12:04
Guildford: Why now, are local auto dealers (domestic) begging me to support these American Companies?
They are running ads with American Flags, telling me that they have been in business for 90 years, and we need to support our American Companies. We are told everyday by our politicians, our government, our teachers, our professors, our hollywood elite, that America is always wrong, America is bad. We answer a terrorist attack, with a strong show of force, and half of our leaders tell us that we are wrong. Our soldiers are baby killers they say. We capture terrorists and lock them away so that they don't kill anymore of our friends-families-fellow Americans, and hollywood tells us that we are barbarians and torture innocent foreign citizens. What are we to think. Why should we care if t... 05 Dec 08, 03:12:03

Guildford: Why do so many Republicans insist Bush is doing a bad job securing America?
All I see is conservatives accusing Barak Obama of not being an American born person.
If that's so, then why has George Mr. Security Bush let Obama be in the SENATE for 4 years....if he's not even a citizen?
Don't you think Bush is even watching who's got direct access to classified Government information?
If Barak is not a citizen then is it not Bush's fault that he did not remove him 4 years ago?
WTF?
On Sept 10th he was having dinner in the White House with the exact same guy he is kissing in my Avatar. Prince Bandar of Saudi Arabia.
Bush will be convicted of treason against America if he likes it or not.... 05 Dec 08, 01:12:55
Guildford: Should there be restrictions on government officials taking jobs post bailout?
I would imagine after their work for the government was finished on the bailout they would leave their post and likely go to work for those same companies they helped to save. I could see former treasury officials taking banking jobs when they leave the government. Others will move from banking into government and the cycle will continue.
Former congressmen are restricted from lobbying for a period of two years after leaving congress.
Should the bailout officials be restricted from working in the financial markets for two years?... 05 Dec 08, 01:12:08
Guildford: So I finished reading The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood...?
I'm fourteen years old, and I just finished reading The Handmaid's Tale.
That story took me by surprise. Never would I have ever guessed what Margaret Atwood had.in store for us. The idea of sex being the only use for women during this time period was completely horrifying for me, yet based on the circumstances it seemed somewhat rational.
The population was suffering and needed to be restored, so of course certain measures had to be taken.
The extent at which the government took to force these women into these jobs just really had me going.
They labeled these womeen, stereotyped them, made examples of them. They chose what they wore and forced them into demeaning, d... 05 Dec 08, 01:12:40
Guildford: If jobs aren't created for the newly unemployed, will the government provide for them until more jobs are ?
created? Or will the same time based unemployment policy stand? By that I mean, if the economy doesn't recover in the amount of time that unemployment benefits are slated to last for now, will the government adapt or will people be out on the street?... 05 Dec 08, 12:12:44
Guildford: Will bailouts really solve all of our problems?
I think Obama gets it. I don't think EVERYONE is being ignorant about it... but a lot of the CEO's of these companies don't seem to understand, and the people listening to them don't seem to understand either... Automobile sales are at a 26 year low according to news. Tell me something; How exactly is $36B, or $180B, or even 1 trillion dollars, going to change what is happening to our country?
Will that put more money in my pocket to buy a car? No.
Their sales will still be low because most normal people have a lot less money to spend.
They do the same thing here in new york state. I don't know how things happen in NYC, but here in the Upstate and ... 04 Dec 08, 11:12:20
