Gloucester: Why so anti-union in regards to the Auto Industry?
As a UAW Ford hourly who doesn't get $70 hr, we have made big concessions on our last 2007 national contract,and wer'e about to give up our job bank as we speak. Tommorrow, the UAW is having a emergency meeting to discuss additional concessions when the union renegotiates our current contract. How come they keep sending assembly plants to Mexico, and call them American made? But what will our executives, managers, supervisors and salaried give up? As an insider, we have way too many chiefs in each facility. The auto industry and unions have brought so much to this country. Fair wages, lunch breaks, health benefits, equal employment labor rights, and provided military transportation...

I need some help as to what I should do about my job. I asked to apply for a supervisor position in my department by the head of my department, and the position was then given to someone else. The reason was that they wanted someone with more experience. Which was fine, but then the next day the head of my department came to me and said to ride out this wave because she is looking into creating a new position in the department and she has me in mind for it.

Gloucester: Insurance/COBRA Question?
Could someone please help me? I left my job last week (I am starting a new position, elsewhere), and my insurance ended on the 30th.
This wouldn't be an issue, however, the insurance at my new job will not be effective until 30 days after my start date, and I have a prescription medication that I MUST refill before this 30-day period rolls around.
I know COBRA is an option, but it would cost more to be on that for a month, because I would still have an insanely high cost on the prescription refill, even under COBRA (from what I understand- please correct me if this is wrong!!).

I am leaving my company on good terms due to my husbands job relocation.
I asked my company for a letter of recommendation and my HR department responded back What I would like you to do is to write up a draft of the letter of recommendation and send it to me. I can put it on letterhead for you
My company is nice doing this for me, I say this because I hear other company's dont even issue them. However, I was hoping to get a sincere letter instead of one I wrote.

Gloucester: How much financial aid do i qualify for?
I am hoping to get loans and grants to pay for college. However I am not sure how much I will qualify for. Last year from April to February of this year I worked for a manufacturing plant for 13.50 an hr. since then I only worked one retail job at 8 bucks an hr for a month.
Now I am also under 21 so I am told I will have to also include parental income with my own. Together we made over 50,000 last year. What types of financial aid can I get? And how much can I get?...

I have an interview tomorrow at an oil company. They have multiple positions available but I am going for two in particular. The first one is a day shift for $14/hr (in which it clearly states). The second is for an OVERNIGHT shift and the pay description is as follows: This long term opportunity pays up to 18.00/hr depending on experience.
* If they are the EXACT same job, just different shift...do you think that it will be more than $14/hr? Does it mean they will pay me atleast $16-18/hr for taking on the overnight shift?

Gloucester: Should I write a thank you letter for an interview at a company where I currently volunteer?
I am an intern at a very large bi-coastal PR firm in the L.A. office. There is a part-time position opening up which I will be applying for later today. I'm just curious wheither I should give a thank you letter to HR manager once I've given her my latest version of my resume or not. Is that necessary?
