Gatwick: what skills would help to make a good film director?
If a child wants to be a director when they grow up, what other areas can they study to gain the skills necessary. I'm a bit stupid - I'm not sure what exactly a director has to be good at - is it photography or is that the job of the cinematograper? I know they need organisational/authority skills but speaking of the creative side.....what is it that the director does exactly in the creative process.....people say camera angles and lighting etc but then what does the cinematographer do?... 09 Jan 09, 12:01:55
Gatwick: Im a highschooler who wants to persure a career in 2D animation. I need advice from a 2D Animator!?
First, Id like to inform you a little about myself.
I've been drawing for a while now and I think I've developed some pretty good drawing skills considering Im only 16. My line of work is just sketches and more sketches of people and anatomical figures. I get creative with my drawings and a lot of my 'finished work' goes along the lines of illustration that I do on the computer with my tablet.
Im awful at traditional painting, but Im quite confident in my drawing skills when it comes to drawing from life. Especially the human figure! But I work with the human figure blind more often than I do from life. I look to Jack Hamm's 'Drawing The Head and Figure... 08 Jan 09, 11:01:10
Gatwick: How can I get my life on track?
I need to be more active both in the physical and social sense. I need to have a regular sleeping schedule, and brush my teeth more. My mother is on my constant nerves not understanding why I chose to be a Film/Art major. She constantly attacks me and I don't know how to handle it. I need a good job that helps me pay for school, rent, and food. Any suggestions?... 08 Jan 09, 10:01:12

Gatwick: Did Derek Vinyard have a job or was he just a high school dropout in the 1998 movie American History X?
From what I saw in the film he took class in high school and listened to Sweeney then after his dad is murdered he goes full blown Neo-Nazi on everybody pushing away his mother and sister who think he's crazy for his views. I never saw him working but he did raid a grocery store in one scene and beat the mess out of the employees there! It took a brutal prison rape and his bonding with a black inmate over laundry to finally change his attitude about illogical discrimination! I think Edward Norton definitely deserved Oscar Award consideration for the film in 1998 but it didn't happen.... 08 Jan 09, 05:01:04
Gatwick: How do you tell a friend that his dream isn't happening?
I've got a buddy who is an aspiring actor. He was at our place for dinner last night and so I'm thinking of him. For two years he's been chasing this dream of acting while putting the rest of his life on hold, and I'm wondering if it's time for him to pursue something else because the acting just isn't going anywhere.
True, he's been in three plays - one at college, two in community theater. He's been an extra in several movies (you can actually spot him in The Dark Night, running for his life from the hospital). He also does improv from time to time (when the troupe has money to rent out a hall and put on a show).
But everything else is on hold.... 08 Jan 09, 05:01:52
Gatwick: How to become actor/director/song writer/script writer?
I really love everything to do with film, but when im listening to music or thinking up a story i always think of what music would be good in movies. Im horrible at playing instruments so i wouldn't be able to be a conductor or anything but I didn't know what I should do.
Is script writing really a bad job? They never really get any credit in the movie when they did WRITE it.
and I love acting. I've acted basically my whole life and keep on going to get an agent.. but never seem to actually go through with it.
Directing just seems like such a fun thing to do. You get to decide how to create all these cool shots, get to choose the music, and in some cases the story (?????... 08 Jan 09, 02:01:31

Your paid by what we make in the long run, such as from the movie + sponsors / whatever we produce.
