Dorchester: Should I just give my two week notice...?
I have been a little sad lately. And that includes times when I am at work...I am not depressed. I know what I am sad about. I haven't cried or yelled, or been mean to anyone... But, I am the receptionist and I haven't been my bubbly self. My boss told me today, that if I don't go back to bubbly by the end of the year, she is going to fire me. I explained to her that emotionally I am going through some stuff and though she listened an smiled, she was rather cold about it. I have thought about this today and find it no where near supportive! I know she wants the old me, but is FIRING me going to help my situation? Nothing has changed at work... no one has become ill or both...

Dorchester: How long does it take to hire interns?
I had three interviews for a position, (one over the phone and two in person) about two weeks ago. After the last interview, I was told they would let me know either way next week . They even introduced me to the HR manager who would be calling me to let me know the outcome. The position is a full-time internship, and it's a very well known media company, so I imagine they are quite busy. However, the show that the company puts on goes on hiatus in Decemeber, so they might not be busy, too. Is it possible that they haven't had a chance to discuss the interviews, or did I just not get the job? I am going crazy waiting because I have been dreaming of working for this...

Dorchester: Would you take a pay cut to keep from losing your job?
I work in a hospital for over 15 yrs. I feel like I know my job well and have a good relationship with everyone. I think we will eventually face lay offs. I think my position will be eliminated before someone who has been there say 2 or 3 yrs because of the amount of money I make, I think I would get the pink slip before the less experienced, cheaper RN. If they start handing out pink slips, I think I would be better off to take a $10 an hr pay cut before losing my job. Whats your opinion? A big hospital in a nearby county has recently had 2 layoffs equaling over 100 staff. I have heard they are getting ready to cut again in January. Our CEO has said they will not lay off, but they ...

Dorchester: Question about COBRA Health coverage.?
A few months ago I broke my ankle and now require surgery. At this time I was under my mothers health benefits, but now I am not. We notified the employer that we needed continued coverage and have yet to receive any information. My understanding is that legally they have 14 days to send the information. My only problem is I already canceled surgery once and have to have the surgery before the end of the month. Is there any legal action that I can take? I dont want to be a pain in the butt since my mom still works there and I dont want to jeopardize her job, but I would like to walk eventually. It hasnt been like we havent addressed the situation- we have called and went to the HR office eve...

Dorchester: Is there a way to get out of paying for college tuition? bogus school?
I went to a legit school in TX, but in the end it was boo boo school I feel I did not learn anything there, I graduated and everything, got my assoc.'s degree but have not ever used it. At first when I applied I asked if I would make more money than what I was making (was making $14.50 hr) by the time I graduated they were right about, that they would always look for work for me, but the only offers that they gave me were $9.50 hr jobs, (I was thinking, I could of done that myself looked for a sucky pay job) And since I made too much they federal loan did not cover my total tuition @ $17,000. So they gave me 2 loans one for the tuition $13,000 and another in house loan for $4,000 so i h...

Dorchester: I need your help with my career. Plz help me with your suggestions.?
I have always written and asked about your opinions whenever I was at a career crossroad. I have a BS in Liberal Studies and I am doing a certificate in HR at Baruch college. I have noticed that I am not interested in HR, its very dry and I dont know if I will be completing the certificate as I have taken just one class out of 7 so far. Also, my interests seem to have now switched to 3 things. I know please bear with me like you always have:-) 1) I feel I should take the GMAT/GRE in order to enroll in either an MBA or a Ms IN Journalism. Which of the two, again I cannot decide. 2) I love to write but I can write mostly about fashion and style and I want to know if YOU think I can m...
