Derby: Do I really want to join the USAF?
I'll have a BS in Bio, so the job market isn't extremely big for that. I've thought about the military, but I'm a little overweight according to their standards (I'd have to lose about 20 lbs before i could join according to military.com). I'm not exactly sure what job I would do in the air force, but I would like it if it had some civilian world equivalent that I could do when I get out. Any suggestions?... 05 Dec 08, 03:12:30
Derby: What do I have to do to qualify to be an Economist with the Bureau of Labor Statistics?
I'm hoping someone will have some experience they can share with me.
I will graduate with a degree in Economics in a year from now. I've been looking at job listings for Economists and it seems like the BLS is the biggest hirer or Economists. I've been checking out the requirements listed on the usajobs.gov website, but I read somewhere that a major qualifier for the jobs was passing an economics test and I read that they had a practice test out there. I can't find any other reference to this test or the practice test. Does anyone know if this really exists and if so, what kind of stuff is on the test. ex. would it deal more with labor markets, or would I have to ... 05 Dec 08, 03:12:04
Derby: Chicago's Current Real Estate Market? Is it worth a job? What job field should I look into?
I plan on moving to Chicago in October of 2009. I have always been interested in real estate here in Detroit where I currently live. I was wondering if it would be worth while to look for a job in either a title company or real estate office.
I know the whole worlds economy is shot, but is it possible to find work in Chicago? I also have my degree in Business Management, any suggestions of how to make money in the city?... 05 Dec 08, 03:12:08

Derby: What is ****The Birk Economic Recovery Plan****?
Do you think this would work? Why or Why Not?
****The Birk Economic Recovery Plan****
I'm against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG.
Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a We Deserve It Dividend.
To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+.
Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up..
So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals
$425,000.00.
My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a We Deserve It Dividend.
Of course, it would NOT be tax free. So let's assume a tax rate... 05 Dec 08, 02:12:08
Derby: Is a fixer upper Really worth it?
I am in the market for a house. Something not too expensive and preferably rent to own.
I recently came across a house that really is a true 100% fixer upper.
Needs new windows, carpet, plumbing work, paint job, and possibly roofing.
Now my question, is buying a home such as this one (with the potential to be something amazing) really worth the extra out of pocket expense just to make the house livable and then the extra money to make it pretty?... 05 Dec 08, 01:12:58
Derby: Should there be restrictions on government officials taking jobs post bailout?
I would imagine after their work for the government was finished on the bailout they would leave their post and likely go to work for those same companies they helped to save. I could see former treasury officials taking banking jobs when they leave the government. Others will move from banking into government and the cycle will continue.
Former congressmen are restricted from lobbying for a period of two years after leaving congress.
Should the bailout officials be restricted from working in the financial markets for two years?... 05 Dec 08, 01:12:08

Derby: Is anyone scared to death that the economy is free falling and many of us will be in poverty soon?
I can not watch the news anymore. It is so scary out there. Many of my friends have lost their jobs and they describe a job market that is the worst it has been since the 1930s. If I do lose my job I will likely be homeless because all the good jobs are gone unless you have specific skills.
Do you expect to be in serious trouble in 2009 in the deep economic depression?... 04 Dec 08, 10:12:19
