Derby: What is the best way of getting into the Makeup Industry?
I am interested in makeup artistry. How would I get into the industry. Are there jobs where I need little experience and they will train me. My cousin works at a MAC counter and she can get me a job there. Will this help?? And I also work at Walgreens and they need more people to work the beauty counter. Will this help some?? I was thinking of moving to New York and going to a cosmotology school. Do you think New York is a good place to start this career?? I was thinking of going to MUD. They have a program that has everything from retail to fashion to the entertainment industry which is what I want to try and pursue. Are there any schools you would suggest??

Derby: Beauty & Style: Could I Model?
I'm 16 years old. I don't mean a professional, runway model :p as if! I've got some recommendation from people in a model agency I got to know, to be a commercial model for catalogues and TV ads. Earn some money,get some experience, like a casual part time job. I'd like to but I don't really think its worthy to try and I will be laughed at :p

okay im 16, i left school with horrendous grades and decided i don't have any interest college because i only got offered a place in beauty and you would never catch me touching someones face or feet etc eww but i have gone to this place called connexions which helps teens who have dropped out or not gone to college to get a job and they don't seem to be helping me ive been round for applications and Information on any jobs and they give me forms to fill in and tell my to come back next week it driving me crazy how can i get a job without being told to keep going back...

Derby: I am 32 years old and still do not have a real career?
I only work part time in cosmetics and I stay at home with my 9 month old son. I still don't have a real direction with my career and jobs. I used to work as a recruiter for $19/hr. I am now making about $17/hr working part time as a makeup artist. I work in retail and I don't like retail all that much because of the hours. I have a B.S. in Fashion Design and I feel kind of like a loser or underemployed currently. I always equated beauty industry and retail industry with women who could not do anything else with their lives. I have always liked fashion and cosmetics though. Yesterday I put forth many observations I've had about beauty. The responses were, well, disappointing in the least. I am hoping that a more intelligent answer will be offered and that people who decide to answer will actually answer the questions asked.
In our society we prize individuality, we prize freedom and the ability to be master of our self. Yet, everyday I see the absurdities of beauty. Derby: Question to fellow women.?
I have decided to set a example of health and to become more curvy. Men say that I am curvy and the ideal of health and beauty, which is shocking since I gained weight. I am no longer a size 0, now as a size 2 I now embrace my true womanly curves. And as a bonus my breast size increased!
Anyway I thought that by me showing my new cover girl like healthy attitude my friend would try to become healthy too.
