Canterbury: When will companies start hiring qualified people what they are worth?
I am an IT Professional and I have had plenty of recruiters call me, but no job offers or real interviews. Why post a job online if you don't intend on interviewing people. It is possible that my resume needs some work, but at the same time I feel that companies that are looking for people to fill spots don't want to pay people what they are worth or make the duties and responsibilities encompass too much. They want a lot of work for a paltry salary. I know what I am worth, but they wont hire me. Should I take a pay cut just to do what I love?... 07 Jan 09, 08:01:01

Canterbury: Although it's against the law...how many believe employers age discriminate? ?
Employers know they cannot age discriminate, but I believe they'll use another reason in place of age. From my own experience once I arrived for an interview and once they Looked at me, they informed me that the job was filled.... 07 Jan 09, 07:01:19

Canterbury: Managers.. would this keep you from hiring an employee?
Im totally embarrased. I am youngish (25) but I usually am very professional.
I let my guard down at an interview today.. the interviewer was being very casual (a little too casual.. told me basically how he used to have short flings with women all the time in his past... just very NON work related but not QUITE totally inappropriate because it was just how the conversation went.)
Anyways, I guess i let my guard down and when we had would you be ok working 8-6 i said.. (so embarrasing) yeah, its all good.
He then said (in a joking tone.. but all jokes have truth behind them.) Let me give you a tip for your future.. take its all good out of your vocabula... 07 Jan 09, 06:01:30

Canterbury: Do I put my current boss as a reference on my resume?
I work for a daily newspaper in a town with an incredibly high unemployment rate. I'm petrified of losing my job (I was the last one hired, and we're losing money), so on a whim I looked at some other copy editor jobs in my state. I found that a company I interviewed with last summer is hiring again. I'd love to send them my resume once more and see if I could get the job.
But I don't know if I should put my current boss down as a reference on my resume, nor how much I should tell her about my job search. I think she'd give me a good recommendation, but I'm also worried that I might get fired if she knows I'm considering leaving, or that things would be... 07 Jan 09, 06:01:32
