Brighton: Why can't recent graduates find jobs?
What the heck is with having to work without pay in order to get started in a worthwhile career? And why do recent graduates always get shuffled to the bottom of the pile? How am I supposed to feed myself and work for no pay? And where do I find these elusive without pay positions? They aren't on monster.com or craigslist.com or in the newspaper. What is the justification behind this (basically age-discrimination) policy?... 07 Jan 09, 10:01:57
Brighton: Why am I tired all of the time?
I am 25 years old, been married for a year, and have two dogs. I graduated from college a year ago and have been looking for a job, but haven't found anything substantial yet. I would really like to write full-time, but know that I need something else in the meantime. Almost everyone on my mom's side of the family has some sort of clinical depression (bipolar, shizophrenia, etc). My doctor has had me on anti-depressants for 6 years, and some parts of my mental health have gotten better. But I am SO sleepy all the time and find it hard to get motivated to do ordinary tasks. I absolutely hate being tired all the time. Does anyone else have a similar problem or know someone that has? ... 07 Jan 09, 10:01:19
Brighton: Student Loan Help: Tips to pay them back after you graduate?
I graduated May of '08 from a 4 yr private, prestigious, expensive college in Minnesota. I'm 21 and have nearly $40,000 of college loans to pay; the hardest part is knowing I worked and saved $12k before attending that college and even worked almost 40 hrs as a full time student. I won't do a sap story, but I had no help from the gov't and I put myself thru school; I didn't rely on mommy & daddy.
Now, I have a full time 40 hour job that relates to my degree. I also just started a second job for nights/weekends to serve tables at a TwinCities bar to make more money.
My goal: To pay the debt off in 3 years. Yes, I know it's A LOT but it's a persona... 07 Jan 09, 09:01:45

Brighton: Question about editing certificate?
I graduated from college about one full year ago, and despite landing many job interviews for entry-level editorial jobs I have not yet gotten a job. Right now I'm interning with a literary magazine and am going to enter the University of Chicago editing certificate program.
My question is this: Does anyone know if an editing certificate program is helpful for landing jobs? I'm just not sure if the job outlook for editing/publishing jobs is so bad that maybe I should start training for a technical career of some sort. I'm putting a lot of hopes that I can get great training/a career network through this editing certification, but I'm just wondering if anyone here is re... 07 Jan 09, 09:01:44
