Australia: What non-commercial careers does Aviation/Piloting have to offer?
My qualifications at the moment are:
- 3x 'A levels' in Maths (A), Physics (A) and Geography (A)
- 1x 'AS level' in ICT (A)
- About 9 GCSEs (A* to B)
- I will also likely be pursuing an engineering/geography related university course
I wanted to know if there are any specific non-commercial, high paying aviation/piloting jobs which fit my qualifications and have regular hours. Maybe something related to data research in the geography or engineering area.
A list of jobs in this criteria would be very much appreciated or any help or advice you can provide. I just need some building blocks to start my research on. Thanks.... 19 Mar 10, 10:03:10

Australia: Marine Reservist to Navy SWCC?
Well, the military is bursting at the seams. I am currently an E4 in the Marine Corps Reserves and looking to go active. From what I hear it's getting increasingly impossible to go from Reserve to Active as a Marine. Thus I'm looking into other branches. USCG is at a two year wait; Army will take me for the warrant officer aviation program; Navy and USAF will only take me if I continue my current job (Motor T) or go special forces. I was looking into Navy Rescue Swimmer, Navy SWCC, or USAF PJ. I grew up sufing and I currently swim CWSQ in the Corps -- thus I wanted to be in water somehow. I narrowed my choice down to SWCC.
Background story aside, I was curious if I can get SWCC ... 19 Mar 10, 09:03:01
Australia: A woman should sign her life away to which branch of military?
I want to join the military to have my current and future student loans paid off, for the adventure, the people, boot camp, the danger.... I've narrowed it down to Air Force, Army National Guard, Army, and Navy, active or reserves lol. I'm 26 and I have my Bachelors degree (Business and computer networking), and even though im not crazy about giving orders to people i would consider going through with Officer Training rather than E-4. Is it harder to become an officer if you go in as Enlisted? There are quite a few jobs that interest me in Administrative, Signal and Military Intelligence, Logistics Support and Aviation fields. I'm leaning towards Army National... 18 Mar 10, 09:03:28
Australia: What can I expect at Army BCT, Ait, and from my mos.?
I'll be leaving for basic at the end of may. I've looked all over the internet and talked to my recruiter trying to get more detailed info. (My recruiter is a former Drill Srg. so I figure he is sugar coating it).
What I want to know is what is BCT really like from week 0 to week 10...Im in shape so I am not worrying about the physical part, but I am a bit clumsy and am nervous about messing up..any tips or things I should learn to give me heads while there.
AIT is my next question. My job is 92f and I'll be in an aviation unit as an aircraft refueler.
Is this job tough on females? Im an E2 now so how hard is it to promote? Also they say you spend half time in class... 18 Mar 10, 07:03:33
Australia: What are some careers related to airports/airplanes?
I got denied from the Air Force for having a curved back and would like to know what kind of careers there are in the aviation field in civilian life. I was looking at aviation management where I would work with all areas of the airport but it also said the college courses are for people who have experience with aviation. I don't want to just have a job at the airport, I'd like to go to school for a degree. I wouldn't like to be a pilot believe it or not.... 18 Mar 10, 04:03:30
Australia: What is the deal with Marine Corps pilots?
In addition to my other considerations, I'm considering piloting planes for the Marine Corps. Whats the deal with the Marine Corps aviation? To be more specific, what is it like flying jets? Is it primarily instrumental? Is it boring? Im trying to learn about the job before I look at anything else, if its not something I'm interested in then I should probably look elsewhere. Is it a job where on the ASVAB I should score high in mechanics? Training process? What kind of person does it take to fly a Military Jet? (Don't tell me perseverance, honor, courage, etc. Those are attributes ANYONE in the military needs...I'm talking about specifically flying jets) I'd prefer t... 17 Mar 10, 11:03:47
Australia: Aviation Strikes........?
Is it just me or are the aviation workers union(unite) going about this the wrong way.
They are complaining about cuts...because of lack of profits...and how do they plan to resolve this...by striking, which causes the business to lose even more money resulting in more cuts...im not albert einstein but damn thats pretty stupid.
They are also complaining that changes are being imposed on them...yet they are forcing the business to change, by threatening a strike....what would Unite say if BA forced workers to do what they want or they wont pay them.....there would be outrage.
Also Unite are asking other countries to boycott BA by getting ground staff to refuse to refuel or get baggae... 17 Mar 10, 10:03:57
