Job Description
We are currently recruiting to the following role, on behalf of a Local Authority, based in the South West of England. The successful candidate will be a car driver and have a good knowledge of housing legislation and Government regulations relating to complex areas of policy and housing delivery.
1. JOB PURPOSE
To enable the provision of affordable housing in response to local needs, Council and government policy. To assist development of policies and procedures. To manage individual projects and represent Environment, Protection & Housing Services on corporate working groups and external multi-agency partnerships.
2. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
2.1 To support the Principal Housing Projects Officer in providing advice and information to landowners, planning applicants, RSL’s etc on matters of Council policy and practice and assess need for, and feasibility of, individual development projects.
2.2 Liaise with RSL’s, the Housing Corporation and other key stakeholders to enable the provision of affordable housing.
2.3 Liaise with planning, legal colleagues, RSL’s, Planning applicants and land owners on content of S.106 Agreements.
2.4 Check progress on allocated schemes, help RSL’s resolve specific problems where possible and prepare information for Council Committee reports.
2.5 Negotiate with housing associations and private landlords to provide temporary housing opportunities for homeless households and investigate and recommend other ways of improving the supply of affordable housing from the existing housing stock in the District.
2.6 Advise the Principal Housing Projects Officer on the implications of new policies, legislation, regulations etc and recommend courses of action to comply with these.
2.7 To support the Principal Housing Projects Officer in the development the Housing Strategy associated policies and action plans, and other relevant Council policy documents.
2.8 Maintain good working relationships with property owners, housing providers, other local authorities and voluntary sector bodies in order to promote effective partnership working.
2.9 Represent the Council’s Housing Services on corporate working groups and external partnerships with other statutory and voluntary agencies.
2.10 Carry out small scale research exercises to investigate housing issues or identify good practise in other organisations
2.11 Prepare briefings, attend meetings to advise Members and represent the council when requested.
2.12 Assist with marketing the Council’s housing initiatives to stakeholders using a variety of media (leaflets, news media, website etc).
2.13 Collect, analyse and maintain data on housing needs including housing register applications and survey material.
