Job Description
Geotechnical Engineer
A Geotechnical Engineer is required to join the geo-environmental team in the Manchester office. The successful individual will form part of a busy team in a vibrant office with plenty of scope to develop their career.
Duties will include the following:
Interpretation of desk study and site investigation data, as they relate to ground engineering issues and the interface between these and contaminated land issues;
Report writing;
Carrying out detailed designs for a range of ground engineering solutions, such as slope stabilization, earth retaining structures, foundations, etc;
Project management;
Communicating effectively with fellow members, clients and contractors;
Contributing to the team’s site investigation contracting activities (including site supervision), as necessary.
Key Competencies
Qualifications:
First degree in civil engineering, engineering geology or geotechnics;
Higher degree in geotechnical engineering an advantage.
Experience
Minimum of 2 years experience in geotechnical/ground engineering including geotechnical design in one or more of the following areas:
Slope stability and stabilisation methods;
Ground improvement;
Earthworks;
Foundations;
Retaining walls.
Experience of using commercially available design software in one or more of these areas.
Experience in supervision of site investigations for civil engineering schemes, including knowledge of soil and rock testing to determine engineering properties, and application of SI to engineering design.
Some knowledge of standards, codes and specifications governing geotechnical design and site investigation activities.
