Job Description
Deputising for the Library Manager when required, the job holder will work as part of the library staff team, cataloguing stock and performing routine library tasks.
Key accountabilities
Deputise for the Library Manager and cover for temporary staff absences
Catalogue new stock
Assist with routine daily library tasks
Responsibilities
Be familiar with, supervise, and operate the loans service
Assist in maintenance and development of the Library Management System
Offer high standards of customer service
Supervise and train other Reading Room staff
Assist in the maintenance and development of the library’s content and service
Knowledge
Practical library techniques, preferably in a technical library
Information storage and dissemination
Experience
Working in an office environment
Taking, analysing and answering queries
Working without close supervision
Working in a technical library
Behaviours

Willing to work harmoniously with colleagues
Work-focussed
Because of the nature of the work associated with this position, candidates are subject to special nationality rules and the position is only open to British citizens. All selected candidates will be required to undergo security clearance.

Qualifications/Skills
Required
Essential
One of the following:
A recognised qualification in librarianship
A recognised qualification in information science
Membership of CILIP
Experience of working with a library management system (LMS)
Preferred
A degree or post-graduate qualification in librarianship or information science
Skills
A good level of skill in IT work
Skills in using library management software would be an advantage
Ability to interact with customers and staff
