Control Systems Engineer
Portsmouth, Hampshire, South East
Salary negotiable depending on experience plus excellent benefits
As a specalist recruitment agency we are currently recruiting for our client an Control Systems within their EICS Control Systems Department.
Roles & Responsibilities
Check the quality and scope of the received project documents against the proposal
Prepare User Requirement Specification for control system(s)
Define control requirements
Define safeguarding requirements
Prepare logics, control diagrams and database for control system parameters
Prepare requisitions for control system(s) inquiry/purchase (hardware & application software)
Execute Vendor Management on all control system purchase orders
Interface with other project disciplines
Interface with client for the control system details as appropriate
Execute control system(s) FAT (factory acceptance test) and SAT (site acceptance test)
Ensure that the appropriate interdiscipline, licensor and client comments are incorporated
Ensure that company standards and client standards are used
Ensure engineering is performed safely and with the required quality
Undertake control system engineering activities for DCS and ESD, such as Hard I/O database, I/O
allocation to I/O cards, Serial I/O database, layout drawings, process graphics design, trend display
design, report display design, User Requirement Specifications, Vendor Bid Review and Technical Bid
Analysis.
Undertake review and checking DCS and ESD Vendor documents, such as ystem cabinet & GA
drawings, marshalling cabinet & GA drawings, server and network cabinet drawings, DCS signal flow
diagram, Loop drawings, logics, sequences, hardware sizing for DCS, CPU loading, I/O loading, cable
schedules, system architecture.

Capable and flexible enough to work outside his/her current range of experience and within other
business areas of engineering.
Demonstrate a good working level of IT skills.
Nature of Problems and Solving them:
Compatibility of engineering interfaces
Supplier non-compliances
Equipment/technology selection
Discuss technical issues with client
Discuss technical issues with vendors.
Level of Discretion:
Due to the intimate knowledge of the process and engineering design during the course of any given
project, the Control Systems Engineer is in a unique position to identify and resolve technical issues as
and when they arise. The skill required should enable assessment of the broad picture and making of
balanced judgements.
An understanding of contractual issues is essential to protect the company from commercial and
technical risk.
Impact:
The Control Systems Engineer can control high value purchase orders and undertakes the supervision
of vendors on the delivery of important equipment necessary to start up the plant - failure could have
significant costs and safety impact.
Job requirements
Job Objectives
The Control Systems Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the control system(s) will be delivered at
the right quality, on time and to budget.
The control systems may include, DCS, ESD, F&G, Machine Monitoring, Tank gauging, Truck loading,
Management information system, etc.
The Control Systems Engineer shall perform vendor management on the purchased control system(s).
Quality, planning and costs control are important issues in this vendor management task.
The Control Systems Engineer shall ensure Inter-Technology coordination in particular with the Process
section or when applicable Licensors and or Package Unit Vendor(s) to obtain the necessary process
information.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Professionally qualified (eg Chartered) Engineer
Experience in contracting environment
Relevant site experience
Team leadership capability
Basic project management skills
Experience of troubleshooting the control systems with the Vendors on site
Knowledge of S88 Batch Standard
Knowledge of communication busses eg Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus, ISA bus
