Job Description: Hospital summary
This district general hospital has undergone considerable expansion and development. It has over 500 beds and has a full range of district general medical and surgical specialities including A&E, critical care, general surgery, urology, orthopaedics, paediatrics and obstetrics and gynaecology.
Medical specialties on site include diabetes and endocrinology, cardiology (with recently opened facilities for cardiac catheterisation and pacing), respiratory medicine, elderly care, genitourinary, dermatology and gastroenterology, stroke unit and rheumatology. Neurology, Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Renal Medicine are also provided.
Facilities include a new 22 bed medical assessment unit and a new combined day case/planned investigation/discharge unit. There is a full range of endoscopy, CCU and ITU facilities and a modern rehabilitation unit. The hospital also hosts the Path Links laboratory for Immunology.
It also has its own purpose built 11 bedded private facility which provides the most up-to-date clinical facilities combined with comfortable and attractive patient accommodation.
Location
Scunthorpe is directly linked by motorway, the M18/M180. The same system provides direct access to the rest of the motorway system including the A1, M1 and M62. Consequently, Sheffield, Doncaster, Leeds, York and Hull are all less than an hour's drive, as is Lincoln on the A15. Rail services connect via Doncaster with the main intercity service to London.
The Humber Bridge, which is one of the longest single span suspension bridges in Europe, now makes Scunthorpe 25 miles from the city of Hull. Humberside Airport is a 20 minute drive from Scunthorpe and is of increasing importance with regular scheduled national and European flights. The port of Hull has car ferry services to the Continent.
