Job Description: 

Principal Applied Physicist / Senior Engineer

Based - Witney, Oxfordshire

Following a review of their technology development strategy, our client is strengthening their  engineering capabilities, and currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Principal Applied Physicist or Senior Engineer. The successful applicant will join a multi-disciplinary team in the Engineering Department, and work to maintain their state of the art competence in magnet design and analysis techniques. The role focuses on the dynamics of interactions between the structures and components that comprise the MR scanner, including the superconducting magnet itself. You will contribute by leading specific technology development projects, informing our development strategy, and helping to design new products.

Key Responsibilities

Formulation and delivery of development programmes to address specific design problems, as well as extend our design capability, in the areas of magnet and system interactions. Work with experts across the magnets and magnetic resonance departments to understand critical design constraints at a fundamental level, enabling optimal product solutions. Component concept, design and delivery in line with product and technology roadmaps, and in response to market and commercial drivers. Evaluation and support of technical manufacturing issues to enable reliable product performance.

Essential Skills and Knowledge

Applicants will have a good honours degree in physics or engineering, and several years experience in a senior position. Relevant industrial or academic experience in dynamics and / or vibration is advantageous but not essential.

Proven experience in tackling challenging technical problems from fundamental principles.Understanding of the technologies applied to MRI magnets, namely electro-magnetics, NMR physics and related analysis techniques.Ability to plan and mitigate risks to acceptable levels to ensure project objectives are achieved on time. Excellent communication skills and a capacity for working independently as well as in a senior team position.
