Job Description: Do you want to work for a global leader in specialty chemicals? We are looking for an R&D chemist or Mechanical Engineer that has experience in using ABAQUS. You will be based in the Materials Physics group, researching into how and why solid materials exhibit particular material properties. This is based on an understanding of the micro- and nano-structures of materials that determine their morphological, mechanical, thermal, electronic, optical and transport properties. Understanding the governing dynamics that provide the resultant material properties are pivotal in providing design rules for materials selection and processing for innovative product design. Key Requirements of Job Holder The job holder will require a broad knowledge of materials science, with particular emphasis on the behaviour of time-dependent (viscoelastic) materials. Specialist knowledge of the properties of polymeric coatings would be particularly relevant. While the focus of the role will be on experimental techniques, some knowledge of numerical approaches such as finite element modelling, particularly using ABAQUS, is essential. Looking for a candidate that has A PhD in Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent relevant experience gained in industry. Proven expertise in the mechanics of polymeric materials (practical and theoretical). Experience in interpreting and analysing mechanical testing data. Good communication skills with the ability to liaise with a range of internal colleagues and external contacts.
