Job Description: Housing Solicitors, Birmingham CC29442 Our client is one of the UK's leading providers of social welfare advice. We are currently recruiting for 2 Housing Solicitors in Birmingham. The Birmingham Service is a vibrant and lively community, and they have been successful in obtaining Legal Services Commission funding for 2 new solicitors to join the team. The advice services offer legal advice on housing, benefits and debt issues. There is also a network of support workers who carry out frontline community support to clients. The Solicitor role Our client has an expanding national team of expert solicitors, based in a network of housing advice centres. We are looking to expand the team to add solicitors to more advice services. You will be part of a national team, and have access to national support and expertise, whilst also having the freedom and opportunity to develop service provision locally in your region. In order to carry out this role, you MUST have 3+ years PQE in housing and homelessness work. You are an expert housing solicitor and an enthusiastic self-starter, confident in your ability to set up and develop a new litigation service and generate high quality work from within the advice centre and beyond. Some of our advice services also have contracts to deliver community care advice and an ability to work in this area in addition would be desirable. Essential Person Requirements � A solicitor with a minimum of three years post qualification experience of housing litigation, including litigation and representing in court on behalf of homeless people or people in housing need. Experience of community care in addition is desirable. � Substantial experience of handling a wide range of housing cases (public and private sector) on issues including homelessness, security of tenure and possession proceedings. � A sound knowledge of legal aid (publicly funded) work including legal representation and legal help. � Meets the SQM supervisor standard in housing. Meeting the standard in community care in addition would be desirable
