We are currently recruiting for a Design Engineer to work for our client in Berkshire.

 

Salary £28,000 - £35,000 depending on experience

Industrial Design Engineer

An award winning and expanding technology company is seeking an exceptional Industrial Design Engineer to join their talented development teams conceptualising and defining Mechanical Design across a wide range of projects.

This is a varied role and will require you to conceptualize and produce designs for clients and manufacturers to process while working to strict specification, reliability and regulatory requirements.

You will be experienced with identifying issues, solving problems and integrating product features. In accordance with our QMS you will also be responsible for producing the technical specifications and documentation for the mechanical aspects of the products being developed. You will be managed by the Industrial Design Manager on a day-to-day basis.

You will be expected to carry out all the following functions:
• Provide input to Mechanical Design planning, costing and time scheduling.
• Review development project plans, specifications and design data as requested.
• Producing technical requirements specifications for the mechanical aspects of products.
• Input into risk analysis, hazard identification and failure mode analysis and mechanical
acceptance test documents.
• Conceptualizing mechanical designs, problem solving at each stage.
• Producing proof of principle rigs or specifying such.
• Aid the development process by ensuring designs are cost efficient, manufacturable and reliable.
• Create design output in the form of 3D models, 2D drawings and BOMS, ensuring compliance
with drawing, geometrical tolerancing and regulatory standards.
• Produce Materials and Manufacturing selection with complete specification packages.
• Work with Electronic and Software development engineers as part of a multifunctional team.
• Peer review deliverables from other engineers, checking for completeness, quality and accuracy.

Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate for this role will have the following:
• An HNC in Mechanical Design engineering or equivalent.
• At least 5 years relevant experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer for a design consultancy
with medical product experience or other safety critical / high technology products.
• High proficiency in SolidWorks as your core CAD design tool.
• Good verbal, written communications skills.
• Demonstrable creative, problem solving skills and experience.
• Experience of working within a quality based system (ISO 9001:2000).
• Wide understanding of rapid prototyping, manufacturing processes, construction and assembly.
• Experience of a full product development lifecycle including interaction with clients, toolmakers,
sub-contractors and suppliers.
• A sound knowledge of material selection and manufacturing processes.
• An understanding of the design process, verification and validation of medical products.
• An ability to work to tight deadlines in a high pressure working environment.
• A methodical approach and a team centred and conscientious attitude.

Ideal but not essential:
• Familiarity with common design tools such as the Adobe CS Suite.
• Have an understanding of medical regulatory processes and standards such as EN/ISO 13485,
FDA regulations etc.
