Job Description: We are looking to appoint several Contract Design Engineers for 2 Clients in the North East. Details of Position: Contact Engineers will be responsible for component and system design across a full range of special purpose machinery from concept through to manufacture. Key Responsibilities: Direct and participate in the design, development, through test to production of product components and system concepts for special purpose equipment Engineering authority ensuring all designs meet fit and function requirements as well as complying to all engineering and regulatory requirements Conduct stress analysis calculations on fabricated structures to ensure design integrity Develop project plans, functional, design and technical specifications Manage specific projects and take the leadership role in the problem resolution process or (experience dependant) work within structured design teams with responsibility for specific areas of larger design projects Utilisation of 2D / 3D CAD software packages as appropriate Production of 3D design models and 2D engineering drawings, ensuring correct fit and function and compliance to company standards Production of accurate bills of material and all supporting paperwork in order to release new designs as well as modifications to existing product Design Data management utilising company data management system Contributing to regular design review meetings, able to communicate clearly at all levels Required skills and experience: Min HNC qualification in Mechanical Engineering discipline or equivalent Previous experience in mechanical/product design in a relevant field (ideally special purpose machinery) Previous working experience in the use of any major 2D & 3D CAD packages (ideally AutoCAD & Pro/Engineer) Previous experience of Finite element analysis using one of the major packages (Pro/Mechanica or Ansys Design Space) would be advantageous Strong Mechanical Engineering and mechanics of materials background gained through design role(s) within an engineering environment Good analytical skills with the ability to develop product concepts and a working knowledge of FMEA, DFMA and manufacturing techniques Strong problem solving techniques Must be self motivated, flexible and able to work in a team environment to tight deadlines and often under pressure Personal qualities: Strong interpersonal and communication skills Good team player Ability to work to deadlines and under pressure on occasion Strong problem solving skills and initiative Professional and mature approach Strong work ethic
