Responsibilities: X Produce and review business and technical specifications. X Develop high-quality and efficient software. X Develop test plans and test relevant components. X Act as a Support Programmer, on an occasional basis or as assigned. X Contribute to the improvement of the Company¡¦s products, procedures and standards. X Act as lead developer for project development work as required. The role: To work as System Developer in the Development Team, capable of undertaking all tasks within the software development lifecycle, detailed below: X Analysis and Design ¡V understand and interpret business requirements into high level solutions, thereafter develop business specifications and conduct design walkthroughs in order to achieve formal sign-off for the technical solution. X Programming - write code to enhance or maintain products and services. X Unit and Integration Testing ¡V test own code and, when required, colleagues¡¦ code at a unit test level. X Implementation ¡V responsible for the roll-out of code produced in accordance with formalised change management procedures. Assist in technical upgrades, implementing new product releases for internal use, and for our clients. X Documentation ¡V responsible for commenting their code and where required producing formal documentation. X Investigations - responsible for undertaking technical investigations and delivering proposals, for example on software performance issues. X Peer reviewing (according to seniority) ¡V responsible for assessing the work produced by other members of the development team. X Technical Support - provide technical support and advice to other areas of the company, as necessary. X Liaise with external clients for specific projects or system support. X Propose improvements to the system, either in terms of its functionality, run-time efficiency or maintainability. X Acquire comprehensive knowledge of all technical tools available to developers, including in-house tools. X Perform other tasks, as required, which are within the jobholder¡¦s capabilities and in line with the objectives of the business. Senior System Developers may also have project management responsibilities on development projects: X Estimating ¡V responsible for providing estimates and task lists for work requests. X Monitoring - monitor the project budget and actual costs against estimates, monitor progress to prevent slippage, and escalate issues as necessary. X Planning and Reporting - maintain project plans and report weekly on progress. X Supervisory Responsibilities - according to experience, mentoring junior members of staff within the team and training of others, where assigned. Requirements: You will be educated to degree level (min 2:1) or higher; have three good A Levels and GCSEs (to include English Language and Mathematics). You will be extremely motive with a desire to succeed; be extremely professional with a strong work ethic and have excellent communication skills ¡V verbal and written. You will have good leadership and negotiation skills and be happy work on your own or as part of a team. Your background knowledge will include: X Programming skills and aptitude. X Database design. X Commercial experience of software development lifecycles. X Experience of large-scale commercial applications software development, supported by quality practices including coding and architectural standards. X Good knowledge of industry best practices, techniques, tools and resources. X Working/participating well within a pressurised team environment. X Object-oriented analysis and design. X Programming in Java, Swing, J2EE. X Oracle or other SQL-based relational database knowledge. X PL/SQL programming knowledge. X C / Pro*C programming knowledge. X Development of web-based applications. X Software testing techniques and tools. X Knowledge of Document Management (Imaging) Applications. X The use of technology within financial services (ideally pensions or insurance) and related industries, and competitor practices. X Project management skills
