Job Description: A Pro-Active Support Engineer is required to join the Planned Services Department within the Managed Services Division, of an IT Support Company, based in Kidderminster, Worcestershire. The Pro-Active Support Service is one of the company's key service offerings. It enables their customers to utilise experienced IT engineers on a planned basis to ensure that systems and networks are maintained to industry standards. Main Duties: The role of the Pro-Active Support Engineer involves attending pre-booked network administration visits at customer sites. A typical session lasts for 3½ hours, initially working through an organised schedule which includes security spyware, spam, virus, etc., network performance, disk utilisation and back-up procedures. Each visit requires a full report to be compiled on the status of the network and actions taken during the visit. You will be working on your own initiative whilst on site and completing additional ad-hoc tasks as requested by the customer. You therefore fully manage the visit to the customers' expectations. You will take responsibility for notifying the customer and company management of impending IT problems which require urgent action, together with suggested solutions. Plus, identify potential improvements or technical innovations that may benefit the customer. You'll be regularly travelling throughout central England and Wales and occasionally further afield, however you will be required to attend the company office on a regular basis, therefore candidates should live within a commutable distance. Skills and Experience Required: The ideal applicant will have an excellent understanding of the Microsoft and/or Linux server environment, together with good communication skills and a 'can do' attitude. Many of their customers are utilising virtualisation technology so experience in VMware or a desire to learn more about this area would be an advantage. The successful candidate will naturally strive to learn new skills and understand new products and technologies. A full driving licence is essential.
