Job Description: Our client, based in Cambridge is seeking a Technical Lead-Mechanical Engineering with an excellent knowledge of manufacture and assembly processes from one off designs to high volume manufacture. Candidates must have an excellent degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. Main purpose of the job To provide a significant contribution to major development projects in a technical lead role. The position will require you to apply your mechanical engineering abilities to the development of world-leading medical product. You will work within multi-disciplinary teams of highly talented people to develop novel solutions to difficult technical problems. Type of work undertaken by the group The Medical Technology Division undertakes the development of innovative medical devices and equipment from concept to prototype manufacture, often incorporating considerable technical challenges. The Division's activities fall into three focus areas: * Surgical and Interventional Products * Medical Diagnostics and Instrumentation * Drug Delivery Devices The client combines highly creative lateral thinking with excellent technical skills and a broad base of industry experience to form a powerful development team. The work ranges from undertaking complete product developments from concept to market, to providing consulting services for clients on their technology, strategy or development processes. Specific responsibilities As a Technical Lead, you will take a leading role in a multi-disciplinary team of Technicians, Engineers, Consultants and Designers. You will be involved in organising the mechanical, electronic and software engineering design effort to meet the requirements of the projects as well as providing creative solutions to problems. You will have commercial experience and awareness and with regard to technical issues, you will act as the first point of contact for both clients and other Engineers on projects. Your role will include using your strong technical expertise to liaise with clients to understand their technical needs and prepare proposals which capture these requirements. You will be involved with hands-on product development and design of complex electro-mechanical systems. Your strong creative and technical skills should allow you to make a significant contribution to development projects and to participate in consultancy work within client companies. Your specific responsibilities are likely to include: * Definition of technical solutions for product or system developments. * Leading design engineers to realise your technical solutions * Generation of concept and layout of systems in CAD * Detailed design of components and products in CAD * Tolerance analysis of system designs * Production of detailed drawings and manufacturing specifications * Transfer of designs to manufacture through liaison with external suppliers * Writing technical reports and producing high quality design documentation. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS To meet the requirements of this role you will be a talented, creative mechanical engineer, with the ability to solve complex mechanical problems and design ingenious mechanisms. You will have a high level of practical experience with proven technical skills, and have spent significant time in an engineering design environment. AN excellent knowledge of manufacture and assembly processes from one off designs to high volume manufacture is required. A good understanding of manufacturing techniques, assembly processes and material selection is key. Significant experience in 3D CAD, preferably Pro Engineer and Solid Works is also required. You will have an excellent degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. You will be a bright, enthusiastic team player. Good communication skills are essential as a major part of your role will be interacting with clients and multi-disciplinary project teams made up of scientists, engineers and designers
