Job Description: Senior Network Engineer - London Internet Exchange (LINX) Southwark, South East London (SE1) Excellent Salary Package + benefits Your chance to work at the heart of the Internet Industry. We are looking for 2 engineers to join our Engineering and Operations teams About us: The London Internet Exchange (LINX) is a mutual organisation, which operates one of the worlds largest Internet exchange points. Senior Network Engineer Responsibilities: * Deputise for Network Operations Manager or Network Engineering Manager * Lead and deliver successful projects - development and implementation of technology and infrastructure upgrades for the improvement and growth of the exchange * Plan and implement software and hardware upgrades, usually focusing on improvements to the network, implementation of new technologies, investigations, testing, enhancements etc. * Configure and maintain statistics gathering system to provide customer billing data * Ongoing day-to-day Network maintenance * Abuse role * Hands-on complex engineering, including heavy maintenance work * 24x7 on call rota * Second point of escalation for support issues . provide back-up to Network Engineers, covering absence and helping with workload and administration * Awareness of and working to budgets * Any other duties required for the overall technical and organisational operation of LINX Senior Network Engineer Prerequisite Skills: * Strong experience in a network/ISP environment * Advanced complex problem solving skills * Debugging/analytical skills * Good oral and written communication skills * Eye for detail, self-starting and independent, but able to work within predefined areas of responsibility * Strong team leading background * Good project management skills * Thorough understanding and experience of Ethernet/Layer 2 switched Networks * Thorough understanding and experience of Cisco IOS * Thorough knowledge of IP routing protocols * Thorough understanding and experience of MPLS/VPLS technologies * Juniper and Extreme experience an advantage * A good knowledge of UNIX system administration skills to support IT out of hours (interpret logs, deal with hung processes, kill/restart services, etc) * Must be able to pass LAIT 3 within a reasonable period Please note: * This post will be included in an on-call rota * You are required to be able to access Docklands within one hour * You will be required to be security screened to BS7858:1996 standard and CRB checked (this will start at your induction) * You are required to have the right to live and work in the UK * You are required to hold a passport which enables international travel to countries we visit on a frequent basis, mostly the Netherlands and the USA Remuneration package: LINX is an equal opportunities employer and all applications will be considered.
