Job Description: IT engineer / technician contractor required ASAP with a view to permanent if desiredDaily rate open please stateIT Support Technician This is a hands-on position working in a busy manufacturing company - duties will include, but not be limited to, providing technical & network support, including troubleshooting & resolving user problems & undertaking specific maintenance & upgrade tasks for the company's IT systems.you must also possess creative problem-solving & technical aptitude; be able to work in a helpdesk environment, be able to multi-task across several projects, and work unsupervised. MCSE certification would be advantageous. Key Skill Requirements and Tasks;1.Windows 2000/2003 Server environment. A practical and hands-on knowledge of Windows 2K/2k3 Active Directory, DNS, DHCP is essential.2. A practical and hands-on knowledge of Exchange server 2000/2003 e-mail system, including daily administration, fault diagnosis, backup and recovery of this system. 3. Windows XP, 2000 Desktop Operating Systems, including support for Microsoft Office suite of products. Automated Desktop / Application Rollouts skills are essential, including system imaging using products such as Ghost.4. Working knowledge of Firewall and VPN-1 and Remote client products is essential as the company's remote sites depend on these for connectivity to its core systems.5. Maintaining and deploying a current anti-virus protection strategy - a knowledge of the anti-virus McAfee E-Policy Orchestrator system is required.6. Maintaining and managing an efficient information storage and retrieval system including the automated daily back up of all information stored on the company's core systems. A working knowledge of Backup Exec or any other 'industry standard' software is essential.7. Maintaining and deployment of a Windows Update System/ Server to ensure all systems and PC's across the company are automatically updated with the latest Windows security patches.8. Maintaining and managing all peripheral devices connected to the LAN and WAN networks, including Cisco ADSL routers for the company's WAN networks.9. Maintaining and managing the network infrastructure including the core switches Terminal Servers, cabling, hubs, and related equipment.10. Identifying and resolving issues with workstations, peripherals, operating systems and network infrastructure, including VPN connections.11. Daily monitoring and recording of server and network performance, and the ability to report and/or resolve server and networking issues.12. Create and maintain documentation of all systems processes and related system configurations, cabling and placements13. Administration of the company's software licenses14. Identify possible IT requirements for the needs of the business and develop outline specifications for solutions15. Undertake from time to time, other duties which may not form part of this job description, including weekend / out of office hour working that may be required to administer and develop the company's systems.Computer People are an equal opportunities employment agency
