Job Description: Consulting Point has been tasked with recruiting a UK Head of Strategy for one of the largest and most successful financial groups in the world.Our client is one of the largest banks in the Eurozone and indeed the world in terms of market capitalisation - the 13th largest public company in the world. Globally, it has a customer base of over 90 million, employs over 180,000 people, and operates more than 13,650 branches—more than any other international bank. Having grown primarily by acquisition in the UK, the main impetus moving forward is not just growth but consolidation and market placement. It’s the third largest bank in the UK in terms of deposits, the second largest in terms of mortgages held, and the fourth largest in terms of branches operated. Our client is very much a success story…but there is still a lot to do! Reporting to CXO individuals and working directly with Board members including the Chief Executive, this role is vital in shaping the future UK business – across all sectors of the bank, not just the retail business. Key areas of focus include: • Responsibility for the Banks M&A activities – (both acquisition and disposal) • Oversight of the banks position within the UK banking sector – including strategic peer review activity • Identify, analyse and monitor key political, economic and regulatory developments in the retail banking sector and define their impact on the profitability and growth of Santander • Provide unbiased business and market analysis and recommendations to inform key strategic decisions, evaluating commercial robustness of current business models, pricing and risk • Develop and maintain external and internal strategic networks to ensure up to date knowledge of key issues including regulatory, business and financial • Review strategic opportunities and produce recommendations for the acquisition and disposal of businesses within Santander UK • Lead the execution of all transactions resulting from the above, liaising across all necessary functions at Santander Group and Santander UK level This high profile, high impact position requires an individual who had not only got the intellectual capability and demonstratable experience in these areas but who can also work comfortably at Board level to directly influence and plan Santander’s future. The ideal individual will have: • Excellent academics – 2.1 from a top tier University • MBA from a leading business school • Strong experience gained within the Strategy area of a Leading Consultancy • A deep understanding of the UK Financial Services sector Additional attributes should include: • FS M&A deal experience – from inception to completion • An informed view and understanding of Regulatory and Compliance issues • The ability to innovate and drive new ideas across all business lines and areas • Experience documenting and resorting strategic issues • Business performance and analytics experience • Exceptional skills in stakeholder management and working collegiately at senior and operational levels.
