Job Description: We are currently searching for a Chief Design Engineer with experience leading large teams of 10 or more Engineers to work on the A350 programme in Southampton, Hampshire. Role Summary/Purpose : The Chief Designer - A350 Program has an exciting and challenging role, where the key focus is leading a large team of engineers, ensuring that they are meeting goals and objectives on programs to which they are assigned. The successful applicant will play a key role in leading business forward, forming part of the engineering management team, ensuring that project goals are achieved and mentoring and developing engineers within an assigned group. Essential Responsibilities : - Provide day to day leadership to a team of engineers - Provide support, counsel and recommendations to engineers within your sub-section to ensure they are working in the most effective and efficient way - Seek continuous improvement in the work performed by your sub-section, challenge existing practices and support innovation - Set goals for your sub section within the framework of Hamble technical and financial objectives - Maintain a broad awareness of the work being carried out within your group to ensure technical excellence, timely completion of work and reviews, appropriate use of resources, and responsiveness to customer / program needs - Facilitate communication of technical and business information between sub-sections, as well as to and from Program Leaders and Managers - Communicate with Senior Leaders on technical, organizational, resource and personnel issues - Define roles and responsibilities for personnel within your assigned Sub-Section - Conduct performance appraisals and participate in salary planning for personnel within your assigned sub-section - Promote professional growth through timely performance feedback, coaching and counselling - Ensure company compliance initiatives and training requirements are implemented within your sub-section - Develop technical competence through encouraging peer reviews, design board participation and continuous learning - Support the development of global teams aligned to your sub-section and based in India, Poland, Mexico and China - Play a role on sites engineering leadership team, help shape the business direction, support the business's strategic aims - Work closely with Airbus to solve and progress technical issues and concerns - Participate in customer technical reviews as required Qualifications/Requirements : - Bachelors degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college or qualified to an equivalent level or similar level of knowledge and experience - Experience in a leadership role within an engineering environment - Previous experience of leading teams of at least 10 - Proven track record of building successful engineering teams - Strong oral and written communication skills - Strong interpersonal and leadership skill - Ability to communicate technical detail clearly and concisely - Track record of success managing major engineering programs - Experience of interfacing with customers - Prior experience of engineering structures within an aviation environment - Knowledge of mechanical design procedures To apply for this position candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK as well as gain security clearance
