Job Description: Our client specialise in the design, development and manufacture of a range of solid propellant rocket motors for use in tactical missiles and employs almost 600 people with an annual turnover of c£100m. As a result of continued success and an ongoing program of strategic growth, they are now looking to recruit a Trials Engineer to carry out a wide range of trials including designing and developing the associated instrumentation and complement their established and successful team. With trials comprising of firing exercises to measure performance parameters such as thrust and pressure and environmental trials to assess such effects as ageing and transport, they are undertaken at purpose built dedicated facilities in the UK, and the successful candidate will undertake a range of duties encompassing Mechanical engineering and the design of pressure, structural, vibration and motor firing rigs, and Environmental testing including Control of explosives, scheduling and maintaining logs, programming, servicing and checking chamber functions and carrying out motor movements, and as all trials involve the use of bespoke instrumentation, the development and maintenance of this associated instrumentation equipment forms an essential part of the responsibilities and may range from routine high frequency pressure measurements to more advanced real time x-ray recording. Other duties will include acting as Range Officer, test firing various types of rocket motor and undertaking the design of trial set up and practical aspects of rocket motor firings, and associated plant and equipment maintenance and relevant documentation. You will be responsible for internal and external trials enquiries, scheduling, readiness and planning and act as the focal point for Audits both internal and external so excellent communication skills are essential for the position. You will be qualified to at least HND level in a mechanical or scientific discipline and will demonstrate previous experience in conducting trials or in designing and developing instrumentation, with exposure to explosive or ballistic trials, Climatic testing and programming, vibration techniques and systems and explosive specifications, standards and regulations proving distinctly advantageous. Reporting to the Test and Evaluation Manager, you will demonstrate a high standard of accuracy in both literacy and numeracy for effective data collection and report writing, and excellent communication skills at all levels. You will be an innovative, flexible and versatile individual able to work to tight deadlines both autonomously and as part of a team.
