Job Description: Our client is looking for an experienced Lead Structural Engineer - Energy, Technical Directorate paying up to £81,000 Role purpose Our client is an independent technical risk management organisation that aims to improve its clients' quality, safety, environmental and business performance across the globe. The Fixed Offshore Structures market is part of the company's core business. It is additionally expected to be a growth area due to ageing infrastructure, the need to extract oil and gas from increasingly difficult locations and due to the expansion in the offshore renewables market. To assist in the development of technology and products to support this global business area, we are recruiting a Lead Structural Engineer to work within the Energy Technical Directorate Key Responsibilities Reporting to the Global Technology Leader for Fixed Structures, the main responsibilities will be: Preparation of company Guidance notes on specific fixed structures subjects including arctic structures and topside structure on floating LNG installations; Undertaking technical work for presentation at conferences and in technical publications; Preparation of structural case studies to promote company Leading independent structural analysis projects; Management of selected projects; Structural design review or consultancy in support of operational teams. Technical/Professional Qualifications/Requirements You will be a Chartered Engineer and hold a degree in Civil, Structural, Aeronautical, Offshore or other closely related engineering discipline. You will have a good understanding of general and structural engineering principles including dynamics and non-linear methods and be experienced in jacket and topsides analysis and design; You will have experience in calculating fatigue damage using deterministic and spectral methods. A good knowledge of wave kinematics and loading is required and an understanding of structural loading due to vessel motions would be an advantage. You will have a good understanding of finite element methods and experienced in the use of structural analysis software such as ABAQUS, USFOS, SACS and STAAD. You will be experienced in using structural codes of practice including API RP2A, ISO 19902 and ANSI/AISC 360 You will be a team player, able to respect and build upon the capabilities of others but should also be comfortable solving problems independently and leading projects. You will need good written communication skills (including technical report writing), the ability to work to tight deadlines and adaptability. The role will involve UK and international travel.
