Job Description:  Our client is looking for an experienced Assistant Structural Engineer - Energy, Technical Directorate paying up to £32,630 Role purpose Our client is an independent technical risk management organisation that aims to improve its clients' quality, safety, environmental and business performance across the globe. The Fixed Offshore Structures market is part of the company's core business. It is additionally expected to be a growth area due to ageing infrastructure, the need to extract oil and gas from increasingly difficult locations and due to the expansion in the offshore renewables market. To assist in the development of technology and products to support this global business area, we are recruiting an Assistant Structural Engineer to work within the Energy Technical Directorate. Key Responsibilities Reporting to the Global Technology Leader for Fixed Structures, the main responsibilities will be * Developing work sheets to perform calculations following a code of practice or research paper or to undertake calculations from first principles; * Undertaking structural assessment using finite element analysis; * Assisting in the development of reliability methods for the assessment of ageing structures; * Assisting in development of wind turbine support structure analysis methods; * Developing and maintaining company Fixed Structures Intranet site; * Assisting in technical work for presentation at conferences and within technical publications; * Assisting the assessment of oceanographical reports; * Assisting in structural design review or consultancy in support of operational teams. Technical/Professional Qualifications/Requirements Ideally you will hold a Masters degree or PhD in a suitable subject area with a first degree in Civil, Structural, Aeronautical, Offshore or other closely related engineering discipline. You will have a good understanding of general and structural engineering principles including dynamics. You will have a good understanding of finite element methods and use of related analysis software. You will understand statistical methods Knowledge of oceanography is considered an advantage. You will be a team player, able to respect and build upon the capabilities of others but should also be comfortable solving problems with minimum supervision. Training will be provided to enable you to develop into a rounded technical specialist and to become a Chartered Engineer. You will need good written communication skills (including technical report writing), the ability to work to tight deadlines and adaptability. The role may involve UK and international travel.
