Job Description:  Mechanical Engineer - New Product Cheltenham, Gloucestershire £25,000 - £32,000 This is an amazing opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to develop your skills into a different arena namely Software Project Management. Your background will be Mechanical New Product Development or Introduction or possibly Design with Product Support and solid documentation of Engineering Calculations. You will also have advanced Excel with VB skills and an interest in software. Our client is a global leader in the supply of engineered solutions for the design, maintenance and operation of industrial and commercial steam systems with a wide product range and application areas. In recent years they have invested heavily in new facilities for research, development and new products so extending their current ranges of products and applications. In order to drive and support current growth, they require a Software Support Engineer to join the Heat Transfer Solutions Strategic Support Unit. Due to the nature of our Heat Transfer Solutions products they often require Sizing and Selection software as part of the sales support collateral. The purpose of this role is to manage the development of this software and to support it post release. Reporting to the Senior Group Business Development Executive- HTS, this challenging role will require the successful applicant to manage the creation of Group HTS sizing and selection software and to support it post release. Key tasks will include (not exclusively): Support the writing of the User Requirement Specification (URS) for Group HTS software Be responsible for writing the Technical Specification (TS) for Group HTS software Be responsible for project managing HTS software development projects Be the point of contact between the Product Related Software (PRS) development team and the HTS team Manage external software development resource when used Be the primary support contact for all users of Group HTS software Be responsible for finding and negotiating with third party software suppliers when necessary. Manage licences with third party suppliers Support Operating Companies in the localisation of Group HTS software, local version control, local distribution, and local support issues Support the HTS team in training Group personnel and Regional support centres in the use of Group HTS software The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following key skills and experience: The documenting and development of software Project management of software projects Experience of documenting engineering calculations High standard of written and spoken English, with experience in producing technically based document Team player Although the above is ideal, as an important part of the role is the documentation of engineering calculations, a mechanical product engineering and a good awareness/experience of New Product Introduction background with advanced Excel with VB skills and an interest in Software would be considered. Applicants should be competent communicators with strong interpersonal skills, proactive and well organised, able to work to deadline and should be positive, customer-focused ambassadors for the work of their department.
